Americans take pride in having popularized the campus novel. Too bad it hap- pened like their demonym, American, which presumes one thing and ignores the rest. In this research, I demonstrate that the campus novel is a limited genre. I also explore why critics and readers alike consider it an American genre, that is one that makes visible only certain kinds of Americans. My focus is on the lack of Hispanic authors and protagonists. Millions of Hispanics teach, study, and work in American (US) universities, yet fiction does not reflect this reality. Having traced its limitations and analyzed the survey …

Visiones Y Disputas Discursivas Sobre Santa Rosa Da Lima: "El Rosal De Rosa" (1889) De Ricardo Palma Y "Babá Osaím, Cimarrón, Ora Por La Santa Muerta" (2003) De Cronwell Jara (Gabriela Falconi Piedra, Pp. 56-65), Gabriela Falconi

Explaining The Syntactic Quantity Of The Types Of Kamm, Mohammed Saleh Alshizawi
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
This piece of research is about how much -Kam, “the phrase” in Arabic syntax, where similarities and differences between inquiry and declarative (how much) will be studied to merge differences into the similarities. The problem lies in the many similarities between the two types, and the scholars’ controversy in the differences that distinguish between them. However, more important is the Arabic use of each one in the other’s place. Hence, the confusion between inquiry (how much) to the declarative one. Based on description and analysis, the study concluded that the phrase (how much) is one for Arabs and has real …

The Dialectic Of Place And Space In The Short Story Collection: "Fathers Are Running" By Linda Husein, Sana Al Jamali
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
This research examines selected stories from the first part of Linda Husein's short story collection, “Fathers are Running”, titled “Almost Everything Is Fine”. It applies the new historicism approach within the framework of cultural studies, focusing on the portrayal of place and narrative space. The analysis establishes connections between these literary elements and the changes and developments experienced by the characters. To achieve this, the study draws upon narrative theories, such as Seymour Chatman's theory of narrative discourse, as well as the perspectives of Franco Moretti and Joseph McLaughlin regarding the depiction of literary texts in relation to place and …

Kazambe’s knowledge is direct evidence that defies the stigmatized viewpoints and negative stereotypes on public housing. This viewpoint is transcended through Balagun’s passionate dialogue on the importance of children and the development of the youth in Co-Op City, his engagement with community-based activities, as well as his extensive knowledge on local politics. As Balagun stresses the importance of political involvement …

Detangling Beauty, Curly Hair, And Race: (Re)Interpreting Beauty And Latinx Racial Identities Through Natural Hair Narratives, Katie Duarte
Latin American and Latino/a Studies: Faculty Publications
The natural hair movement aims to encourage people from the Black diaspora to embrace their natural afro-textured hair, which has facilitated a cultural change in the United States. This article asks how Dominican and Dominican-American women in New York City interpret the racialized and gendered discourse through narratives about their hair. Dominican racial identity has historically relied on a rhetoric of Indo-Hispanicity (“brownness”) for its simultaneous proximity to whiteness and distance from Blackness. However, afro-textured hair is becoming more popular among Dominicans in the Dominican Republic and the United States. This article utilizes hair as a cultural tool to trace …

In this introductory essay, the editors of the special issue on the 4-trans in bi/multilingual teacher education, highlight the contributions of one or more of the “4-trans” lenses—transnationalism, transculturalism, translanguaging, and transdisciplinarity—to explain, question, challenge, or propose new ways of understanding bi/multilingual teacher education. Eight articles that challenge monolithic perspectives of teacher education are presented.

Dialogic Foundations Of The “4-Trans” Framework: Towards A Comprehensive And Dynamic Understanding Of Multilingual Teacher Education, David Martinez-Prieto, Sandra I. Musanti, Xiaodi Zhou
Bilingual and Literacy Studies Faculty Publications
In this article, we develop the “4-trans” framework by reflecting on the way current multilingual teacher preparation scholarship has addressed translanguaging, transnationalism, transculturality, and transdisciplinarity either in compartmentalized or integrative manners. While current literature has addressed some “trans” intersections, we propose the enunciation of the “4-trans” as permeable and complementary principles in multilingual education that can serve to better examine the experiences and challenges of multilingual pre-service teachers. To amalgamate the “4-trans” to examine the development of multilingual pre-service teachers, this article describes the construction of a multidimensional framework based on a dialogic conception of social …

The Song Addressed To Children Is A Reading In Ibrahim Abu Talib's Collection Of "Songs And Songs Of Innocence", Mohammed Bin Dhafer Al-Qahtani
Journal of Arts and Social Sciences
The anthem" is the lyrics that children sing, participating in and enjoying the words, melodies, music, and movements that express their interaction with the sung words and poetic music. The study of the anthem is important because it influences the formation of many of their emotional, intellectual, and aesthetic values. The importance of this study is highlighted by the nature of the discourse directed at children. Two main features emerge: the specificity of the addressee (the child) and the specificity of the discourse. This is revealed by the research in the collection "Songs and Hymns for Innocence" by the poet …
