In today’s world of sedentary work and study, movement is more important than ever for both our bodies and our minds. These exhibit panel designs explore how public space can be a catalyst for physical wellbeing, creativity, and joy. Featuring a series of photo-based display panels, the exhibit showcases images of dance and movement in public spaces, captured and curated to highlight the often-overlooked role of urban design in supporting health. The exhibit includes reflections on how movement—when thoughtfully integrated into public life—can reduce stress, spark joy, and foster community. A Dialetical Materialist Reading Of Language And Ideology In The Metamorphosis, Sidhanth Sethi

In this paper I use a dialectical materialist conception of ideology to analyze how it functions through language in Franz Kafka’s story The Metamorphosis. Beginning with Hegel’s account of consciousness as constituted through contradiction and its material reorientation in Marx and Engels, this project situates ideology within the social relations that shape human life. I then employ Evald Ilyenkov’s conception of material generation and Valentin Volosinov’s semiotic theory, arguing that signs constitute the material medium through which ideological meaning is produced and through which consciousness learns to misrecognize its own conditions. “A Tale of Two Eras” explores the Gretsch Jet Firebird electric guitar over the years with one example from 1956 under family leadership, and another from 1971 during the Baldwin era. Though both instruments share a bold red finish, their design and sound reflect shifting company visions and rock history. Used by artists like Malcolm Young, the 6131 Jet Firebird has helped shape the look and tone of rock music.

The Dominican population of New York City has experienced a significant decline since reaching its peak of 761,333 in 2021, falling by nearly 13% to 663,169 by 2024. This decline does not appear to be driven by reduced immigration from the Dominican Republic, as yearly arrivals have remained at relatively high levels between 2011 and 2023.

This Latino Data Project Report suggests that there has been an important emigration of Dominicans away from New York City to other areas of the United States. It is likely that the Dominican population of New York City will continue to decline into the …

江户前期，東渡日本的浙江籍文人陳元贇與日蓮宗僧元政詩歌贈答往來，唱和盈帙並合編爲《元元唱和集》。該集是東亞漢文學史上的第一部中日人士唱和專集，既見證了士僧之間神交心契、塤篪相應的深厚友誼，又呈示了明清嬗替時期與江户漢文學交流互動的多元樣態和詩藝圖景。書翰往來與詩歌唱和交際功能的耦合，不僅在文學場域產生了雙重疊加效應，同時也俾使“元元唱和”活動得以跨時空延續。“元元”唱和詩歌在抒寫日常生活、自然四時、行旅思歸與讚頌親友之情等層面，多向度地映現了中日漢詩的同源異流特徵。作爲近世中日文化交流史上的詩誼典範，通過對“元元唱和”及唱和集内容的尋繹，可覘其中含藴著豐富的文學文化價值。

In the early Edo period, Chen Yuanyun (陳元贇, 1587-1671), a scholar from Zhejiang who traveled to Japan, exchanged poems with Gensei (元政, 1623-1668), a monk of the Nichiren sect (日蓮宗), and their poems were compiled into Yuan Yuan changhe ji (《元元唱和集》). This collection is the first special collection of Chinese and Japanese poetry and poetry in the history of East Asian Chinese literature. It not only bears witness to the deep friendship between a scholar and a monk, but also presents the diverse forms and poetic landscape of exchanges and interactions with Edo Chinese literature during the transition period …

The leadership and organizational cultures of local churches are crucial. Over the centuries, these cultures have been shaped by various factors, from the teachings of the Apostle Paul and Apostle Peter in the New Testament to the behaviors and practices of the Catholic Church, the influence of the Reformation, and insights from modern research. This dissertation identifies ten leadership and organizational traits that have influenced the culture of New Testament, historical, and modern-day churches. This article outlines some key elements of Dundee’s industrial literary tradition, primarily associated with the city’s jute industry, as expressed in the songs and poems of Mary Brooksbank (1897-1978). It also explores ways in which writers working from the 1980s onwards have used the memory of the jute industry, Brooksbank herself, and associated verse traditions to imagine place and work in post-industrial Dundee.

James Barke’s literary imagination of working lives is primarily concerned with how different modes of labour generate a tension between refusal of work and the material constraints on fully engaging in it. Putting into conversation the Marxist autonomist method of ‘compositionism’ with Barke’s own theories of art and class struggle, this article traces how Barke’s fiction represents toil on the one hand, and the yearning for a life beyond the tyranny of capital on the other, as defining the horizons of working-class life.

This article argues for a reappraisal of Archie Hind's landmark Glasgow novel The Dear Green Place (1966), which represents the conflation and combination of long histories of class formation with the grind of everyday labours, and a provocation about the possibilities, limitations, and contradictions of working-class artistry in twentieth-century Scotland.

This article focuses on Agnes Owens whose work is examined in the light of Michel Foucault’s essay “Lives of Insignificant Men”, and Pierre Rosanvallon’s Parliament of the Invisible. It tackles the idea that Owens portrays what Foucault calls “insignificant lives”, with a particular emphasis on working or working-class women and on what Owens sees as poverty “in [the] minds”, to show that her fiction is political in a way that is not openly militant.

‘Just Get It On The Table’: Gendered Food Labour In Janice Galloway’S Fiction, Gina Lyle

Studies in Scottish Literature

This article explores how food labour is used to articulate concerns around gendered power dynamics in Janice Galloway’s short stories and novels. By examining instances of food management and preparation, this article argues that food makes struggles for identity, autonomy, and power more clearly visible. Writing by Sarah Sceats and Mary McGlynn is used to discuss issues around women’s identity formation, while Carole Jones’s work on gender disorientation in late twentieth-century Scotland and Nick Fiddes’s materials on the prestige of meat both aid in arguments around men’s relationships with food labour.

The political career of Cordell Hull was motivated primarily by trade policy and the courting of Central America through the negotiation of reciprocal trade treaties that helped stabilize, for the most part, the entire Western Hemisphere. He was an obvious choice for Roosevelt’s cabinet to address economic instability. But why was he chosen for Secretary of State? The Open Door Policy, adopted by many Western nations in East Asia during the early 20th century, was a petri dish primed for the growth of political strife and international conflict.
