Coping With And Surviving Domestic Violence Among African American Women In A Rural Community, Kimberly Evonne Wimbush

Domestic violence (DV) or intimate partner violence is a widespread public health problem in the United States that knows no boundaries. Previous researchers have found that in the United States, African American women experience more severe effects from DV than women in other ethnic groups. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to identify the coping strategies used by African American women who have survived DV living in rural areas where there are limited professional resources. Premises from the superwoman schema and adult resilience theory guided this research. Semistructured audio-recorded interviews, conducted via Zoom and face-to-face, were used to …

In The Fable of Acis, Polyphemus and Galatea, John Dryden reinterprets the myth of Polyphemus to reflect early modern perspectives on monstrosity and the natural world. Situated within the context of European colonial expansion, Dryden’s translation and significant additions to Ovid’s narrative capture early modern society’s deepening engagement with the natural environment and shifting views on the “Other,” a figure often synonymous with monstrosity. While much has been written about monstrosity during this period, this study focuses on Dryden’s depiction of Polyphemus as a monster whose ambivalence—rather than distancing him from nature—anchors him within it. In use from the mid-16th century, the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro was part of a global network of intercontinental roads and sea circuits designed by the Spanish monarchy to promote evangelization, encourage trade, and connect the different regions of the empire. Consumers are rarely aware of how much work actually goes into the enjoyment of their food. It is common knowledge that restaurant owners put a lot of work into their art, we can see this in the food they put forth, but so much is missed behind the scenes in the manipulation of the consumers' senses. Flavor perception is often confused for the simplicity of taste, however, I argue flavor perception is a complex construct of multisensory interactions, intentionally placed to influence consumers' purchasing behaviors.
