Geology Faculty Research and Scholarship

Minerals are uniquely tied to colonialism, labour, and environment; however, those relationships have traditionally not been described in mineral catalogues – an omission that limits curators’ ability to account for mineral histories. This paper re-imagines mineral cataloguing practices to restore historical, cultural, and environmental contexts that were stripped away. We describe the roles of citations; linked data; provenience and provenance histories; non-standardized and ‘unapproved’ nomenclatures; positionality; and the need to label archival silences. We examine the risks and practical limitations that arise in attempting to turn this colonial tool against itself. In discussing these issues, we contribute to ongoing dialogues …

This article offers a vivid portrait of Mohammed Khaïr-Eddine as a major—yet often marginalized—figure in Moroccan Francophone literature. It revisits the formative moments of his life to show how his personal journey fuels a writing of revolt—both poetic and uncompromising—directed against injustice, social hypocrisy, and political suffocation. The article highlights the stylistic power of Khaïr-Eddine’s work and explains how this very radicalism also contributed to misunderstanding and, later, to his relative obscurity in Morocco. Finally, it emphasizes the complexity of his identity and argues that he deserves to be rediscovered as an essential, free, and unsettling voice within Morocco’s literary …

Philosophically, it might be grounded in Walter Benjamin’s The Metaphysics of Youth where Benjamin’s return to an age of eternal youth, which, due to its lack of memory,⁴ aligns with the ethos of GenAI.
