This paper tackles a possible reconciliation between morality and rational prudence that ensures a moral way of life is valuable for the agent that lives it. A well-known critique of Russell’s Theory of Descriptions, offered by P.F. Strawson, is that a central tenet of Russell’s theory, the claim that any particular utterance of a sentence with a non-referring definite description will be either true or false, is mistaken. Strawson provides a similarly well-known argument in support of this claim which at least in part rests on an analysis of such utterances as implying or presupposing, rather than asserting, parts of the logically existential proposition that Russell takes such sentences to be. This study explores the level of critical consciousness of students by introducing contemporary artists who explore critical issues in their work. In this action research study, I examine my student’s artwork and written reflections before and after introducing them to multiple contemporary artists. I came across the work of Nostradamus as part of a curatorial team working with books housed in special collections. Instantly, I was intrigued by the background of the man who's most enduring work is an attempt to calculate the events of the future based off the mathematics of astrology. Nostradamus was a doctor and astrologist living in France from 1503 to 1566. He wrote his first prophesies in 1550 after a visit to Italy sparked his interest in the occult. In order to keep his predictions from seeming to close to biblical prophecies, they were written using poetic forms.

In 1898, Kate Chopin was a generally well-received author of short stories, her previous works described as "clever." But after the publication of her 1899 novel "The Awakening," Chopin's reputation was destroyed. To better understand the novel's disastrous failure, I will present a pentadic analysis of two initial reviews of the novel published in local newspapers. Corse and Westervelt explain that "the dominant interpretive strategy of reviewers in 1899 was built on assumptions of reading as moral instruction and of women as selfless nurturers." 20th century modernist architecture has begun to age in the 21st century, and the debate of its preservation has begun as well. As the defining architectural style of the 1920s through the 1970s, modernism displayed progressive materials and ideas of the time. In its application, however, it often mirrored the societal injustices it was meant to solve. This project analyzes the various characteristics of modernist architecture and their lasting importance. This article reproduces the Lyrische Suite no. 2, op. 24, by the Austrian composer Rudolph Süss, with a short introductory commentary. First published in Vienna around 1921, this suite is a fine example of the enthusiasm for the guitar in early twentieth-century Austria and Germany, which resulted in much music that has been overlooked, overshadowed as it was by the emerging Spanish repertoire.
