This study uses the concept of gamification to engage first-year students in the act of summary writing. The researcher argues that writing instructors should consider ways to gamify concepts in their curriculum to bring novelty and active involvement to course materials. For many educators with interests in digital and media literacy, the COVID-19 pandemic was an inadvertent opportunity to explore digital and media literacy through online learning and professional development. This paper describes how a diverse and multidisciplinary group of educators gathered each weekday in a Zoom video conference meeting for fellowship, emotional support, and sharing, building relationships which evolved over time to support emotional growth, technology skill development, learning, and reflection. This study investigates the status of Bahir Dar University students’ social media literacy and how associated factors affect developing core competencies. A combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods have been employed in the study. Both descriptive and inferential statistics of means core, standard deviation, one sample t-test, independent sample t-test, correlation and multiple regressions were used to analyze data gathered from the quantitative design. Data gathered from FGD were analyzed qualitatively. Accordingly, the students’ overall social media level was found to be low. Media, Obesity Discourse, And Participatory Politics: Exploring Digital Engagement Among University Students, Tao Papaioannou

Situated within research on youth, participatory politics, and media framing of obesity, this study examined how undergraduate students in a media literacy course engaged with obesity discourse as a nexus of civic participation. Twenty-nine students enrolled on the course identified frames of obesity in plus-size model Tess Holliday’s Instagram posts surrounding her controversial Cosmopolitan cover in 2018. Analysis of these frames – self-validation, injustice of fat-shaming and stigmatization, influences of Instagram celebrities on fat embodiment, and health stereotypes of obese people – enabled the students to critique activist responses to accepted body norms and moral values facilitating weight bias. The objective of this study is to investigate Thai translations of postcolonial and African-American literature that contain linguistic hybridity as one of their main characteristics. The study applies Klinger’s (2015) concepts of symbolic and iconic hybridity in narration to explanations of the writers’ and translators’ intention to abrogate English writing norms by using non-standard language. The findings reveal that the Thai translators were unable to maintain the linguistic hybridity found in the source texts due to their use of additional cushioning and grammatically correct Thai language. The result shows that the significant effect on female characters is suffering haunting of the past. Some Notes On Language In The Chinese Versions Of The Saddharma Puṇḍdarīka Sūtra, Apiwat Kumpai

The purpose of this article is to compare versions of the Saddharma Puṇḍdarīka Sūtra in Chinese. The study found that the Saddharma Puṇḍdarīka Sūtra has been translated into many Chinese versions, three of which exist in the present: Dharmarakṣa’s,  Kumārajīva’s, and Jnanagupta & Dharmagupta’s version: this last being a supplemented version of Kumārajīva’s and therefore not a new translation. Among the Chinese versions mentioned above, Kumārajīva’s is the most popular. A comparison between Dharmarakṣa’s and Kumārajīva’s version reveals many differences, particularly in numeral usage, transliteration of proper names, use of religious terms, four-character phrases, continuous reduplication, precise description, use of …

This paper discusses differing representations of Xiwangmu in Han art and texts. While these representations share some characteristics that indicate the same deity, Han artists’ created a wide variety pictures of Xiwangmu in tomb murals. Many leading scholars have produced excellent pieces of scholarship regarding Xiwangmu as depicted in Han art. The Han period was a significant time for the transformation of Xiwangmu. Various descriptions of her were recorded in pre-Han texts, and she gradually became a deity representing yin during the Han dynasty. Before Thai archival management was influenced by Western concepts, the Thai word for archives, jotmaihet, referred to the documentation of events. This definition differs from that of modern archives, which emphasizes the keeping of records with ongoing value. This article studies the roots of Thai archival practice, investigating the evolution of documentation in Thai society as well as its underlying principles. The research employs content analysis of various Thai archives and interviews with Thai national archivists and experts in documentation. This paper studies Ursula Poznanski’s Erebos (2010), a German young adult novel, in terms of the concerns it raises about the dangers of and solutions to computer game addiction among young adults. The novel shows   the dominance of the computer game “Erebos,” which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to process the interests and desires of its players. These players are shown attaching themselves to their virtual selves so much that they deny their real-world selves, and are then manipulated by the Erebos AI to commit acts of violence. A literary monument of the eighteenth century, the French Encyclopédie (1751–1772) was a massive reference work written by a team of experts that aimed to depict arts and crafts in unprecedented detail. It eventually grew to contain twenty-eight large folio volumes but the journey there was filled with uncertainty due to royal suppressions from seditious and anti-religious ideas and accusations of plagiarism. Since 1951, scholars have studied one of these accusations, made by architect Pierre Patte against the plates, editor Denis Diderot, and the four publishers. In this paper I argue that the framework of moral extensionism relies on human exceptionalism and human centeredness. I discuss the dangers of human exceptionalism and human centeredness using the work of ecofeminist philosophers Val Plumwood, Carol Adams, Lori Gruen, A. Breeze Harper, and Lisa Kemmerer. These ecofeminists each articulate alternative approaches to human relations with other animal beings. There are tensions among these alternatives, though, and I use a pragmatist perspective to interrogate their different positions on how other animal beings should or should not figure into the diets of human beings.
