The Sacredness Of Some Seals And Its Relationship To God Thoth, Dr.Hayam Hafez Rawash
The Sacredness Of Some Seals And Its Relationship To God Thoth, Dr.Hayam Hafez Rawash
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
( En ) Seals played an important role in ancient Egypt. They were not only used as administrative securing devices for the state bureaucracy, private individual, documents, containers, places, but also as amulets during daily life and in the netherworld. There are some features confirmed the sacredness of seals such as:
•Seals as devices of protection.
•The crime of breaking the seal.
•The seal and sacredness of the place.
•The sacredness of the process of sealing.
Beside the sacredness of seals, there are some texts confirmed the relationship between seals and the god Thoth, the relationship …
The Refusal Of Minting Ottoman Silver Para Multiples In Egypt As A Reflection Of The Political Relation With The Ottoman Sultanate, Eman Mahmoud Arafa
The Refusal Of Minting Ottoman Silver Para Multiples In Egypt As A Reflection Of The Political Relation With The Ottoman Sultanate, Eman Mahmoud Arafa
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
( En ) During the Ottoman reign in Egypt (918-1222 A.H/1520-1807A.D), while the mint of Istanbul –the capital of the Ottoman Sultanate- was responsible for minting the multiples of the Para, Egypt refused to follow this coinage tradition, despite the fact that it was a state of the Ottoman Empire. This practice on behalf of Egypt reflects some important political events that may show the concealed reaction of refusal and opposition to the Ottoman reign in being against minting through the silver coins as a secondary coin, and not through the golden coins which were the essential ones. In addition, …

Investigation Of Environmental Impacts On Sandstone Blocks At Luxor Temple And Concepts For Conseration, Dr. Elashmawy Abd -Elkareem Ahmed
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
(En) Sandstone blocks were used in the construction of Luxor temple. However, they, especialy cement materials, were at a great risk because of being affected by various deterioration factors. Groundwater started to rise in and around the temple, causing serious deterioration aspects of the blocks. Therefore, the current study was conducted to focus on the role of pores and cement regarding the deterioration process of sandstone blocks in the temlpe. In order to conduct systematic investigation, it adopted SEM – EDX, PLM and XRD. Also, physical and mechanical properties were examined to evaluate the components of the sandstone, under the …

The Mayors Of Wah-Swt In Late Middle Kingdom, Dr.Anwar Ahmed Selim
Journal of the General Union of Arab Archaeologists
( En) In the late Middle Kingdom, Senowesert III established his funerary complex at Abydos, and built an important town adjacent to this complex. This town, which was closely associated with Senowesert III''s funerary complex, was called WAH-swt. Mayors of WAH-swt were responsible for the administration of the funerary complex of Senowesert III in addition to their town. They have additionally overseen the estates located in the vicinity of the complex and the town of WAH-swt. As such, this paper aims at spotting lights on the mayors of the town of WAH-swt, their titles, and their role in the late …

Contesting Historical Enchantment: Militarized Settler Colonialism And Refugee Resettlement In New Mexico, Christina Juhász-Wood
Contesting Historical Enchantment: Militarized Settler Colonialism And Refugee Resettlement In New Mexico, Christina Juhász-Wood
American Studies ETDs
This dissertation provides an interdisciplinary critical study of refugee resettlement to Albuquerque, New Mexico. I argue that refugee resettlement to the United States cannot be understood separately from the ongoing structure of settler colonialism. I analyze Albuquerque’s post-WWII militarized settlement as a settler colonial process of extraction and suburbanization that depended on Native labor and resources to fuel the growing nuclear weapons program. Albuquerque’s Kirtland Air Force Base played a role not only in displacing and thus producing refugees during the Vietnam War but also in marking Albuquerque as a distinctly militarized geography to which they were resettled. Thousands of …
Nubians Of Plutonia: Black Women In Modern Post-Apocalyptic And Dystopian Graphic Literature, Marthia D. Fuller
Nubians Of Plutonia: Black Women In Modern Post-Apocalyptic And Dystopian Graphic Literature, Marthia D. Fuller
American Studies ETDs
This dissertation explores the deployment of race and gender in comic books and graphic novels, paying close attention to how Black womanhood and girlhood operates in the speculative future. This project suggests that the framing of black womanhood and girlhood in post-apocalyptic/dystopian spaces provide a counter to the normative notions of both while simultaneously using normative tropes of Black womanhood and girlhood to produce new ways of understanding Black femininity in the future. Nubians of Plutonia use Black feminist cultural criticisms, Black popular culture, and visual culture to ask: does graphic literature present new, more dynamic understandings of race and …

Female Monarchs And Merchant Queens In Africa, Nwando Achebe
Female Monarchs And Merchant Queens In Africa, Nwando Achebe
Ohio University Press Open Access Books
An unapologetically African-centered monograph that reveals physical and spiritual forms and systems of female power and leadership in African cultures.
Nwando Achebe’s unparalleled study documents elite females, female principles, and female spiritual entities across the African continent, from the ancient past to the present. Achebe breaks from Western perspectives, research methods, and their consequently incomplete, skewed accounts, to demonstrate the critical importance of distinctly African source materials and world views to any comprehensible African history. This means accounting for the two realities of African cosmology: the physical world of humans and the invisible realm of spiritual gods and forces. That …
Human Supremacy As Posthuman Risk, Daniel Estrada
Human Supremacy As Posthuman Risk, Daniel Estrada
The Journal of Sociotechnical Critique
Human supremacy is the widely held view that human interests ought to be privileged over other interests as a matter of ethics and public policy. Posthumanism is the historical situation characterized by a critical reevaluation of anthropocentrist theory and practice. This paper draws on animal studies, critical posthumanism, and the critique of ideal theory in Charles Mills and Serene Khader to address the appeal to human supremacist rhetoric in AI ethics and policy discussions, particularly in the work of Joanna Bryson. This analysis identifies a specific risk posed by human supremacist policy in a posthuman context, namely the classification of …
New Directions In Early Modern English Drama: Edges, Spaces, Intersections, Aidan Norrie, Mark Houlahan
New Directions In Early Modern English Drama: Edges, Spaces, Intersections, Aidan Norrie, Mark Houlahan
Late Tudor and Stuart Drama
New Directions in Early Modern English Drama examines some of the people, places, and plays at the edge of early modern English drama. Engaging with topics such as child actors, alterity, sexuality, foreignness, and locality, this volume demonstrates that the people and concepts long seen as on the edge of early modern English drama made vital contributions both within the fictive worlds of early modern plays, and without, in the real worlds of playmakers, theatres, and audiences.
African American Sacred Music And The Romantic Aesthetic, Brooksie Harrington
African American Sacred Music And The Romantic Aesthetic, Brooksie Harrington
English Faculty Working Papers
Gospel music affects every aspect of African American culture, and the similarities between the African American sacred music aesthetic and the Romantic aesthetic share a theme of religiosity that is contained in the correlative of the mythopoetic “seam.” This seam meshes together analysis that explores the natural sublime, as suggested in the writings of such scholars as William Wordsworth, Pierre Proudhon, Samuel Coleridge, James Weldon Johnson, Henry L. Gates, and Anthony Heilbut.

Collaboration In The Technical Communication Classroom: Negotiating Team Contracts In A Pwi, Alyssa Herman
Collaboration In The Technical Communication Classroom: Negotiating Team Contracts In A Pwi, Alyssa Herman
Theses and Dissertations
As TPC teacher-scholars, we must acknowledge the overwhelming Whiteness of our field and the racism, ableism, and sexism inherent in our institutions. We must actively work toward inclusivity and socially just collaborations in our classrooms by encouraging dominant-identified students to confront their privileges and implicit biases in order to better engage with historically marginalized students. With that said, this thesis examines how teacher-scholars might take up a cultural-rhetorical approach to teaching TPC and how we might negotiate team contracts in PWIs. Firmly situated within the social justice turn, Herman draws from both feminist disability theory and critical race theory to …

How To Build A Supercomputer: U.S. Research Infrastructure And The Documents That Mitigate The Uncertainties Of Big Science, Sarah Read
English Faculty Publications and Presentations
In this article, I argue that technical reporting and documentation processes function to mitigate uncertainty and enable complex systems in the endeavor of big science. The argument draws on two years of field research investigating technical reporting and documentation processes at a federally funded supercomputing center dedicated to scientific research. A central question the study sought to answer was, “How does one build a new supercomputer?” One of the answers that emerged is that supercomputers are built by the genre assemblages of documents that mitigate financial, political, and technological uncertainties, and their attendant risks, that are inherent to technoscientific cutting-edge …

Bodies In Shame: Writing Trauma And Affective Unsettlement In Post-Genocide Rwanda Fiction, Cole A. Carvour
Bodies In Shame: Writing Trauma And Affective Unsettlement In Post-Genocide Rwanda Fiction, Cole A. Carvour
Foreign Languages & Literatures ETDs
This thesis analyzes Boubacar Boris Diop’s Murambi, le livre des ossements and Véronique Tadjo’s L’Ombre d’Imana: voyages jusqu’au bout du Rwanda. I argue that both authors write trauma by employing both a dominant realist style and the trauma aesthetic with attention to the embodied experiences of genocide victims and survivors in both styles. In doing so, each author contributes to impeding indifference surrounding the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Furthermore, I assert that one effect of writing trauma is that of affective unsettlement or affective travel, or the registering of psychic and physical shame and other related affective responses in the …

Mindfulness, Flow And Self-Care For Double Bass Musicians, Samuel R. Brown
Mindfulness, Flow And Self-Care For Double Bass Musicians, Samuel R. Brown
Music ETDs
In this qualitative multi-case study, three college-age music majors from the local state university were interviewed, observed, and asked to complete reflections in order to answer the following questions: How do mindfulness activities affect collegiate double bass music students’ perceptions of their own playing and practicing? My secondary questions were 1) how do mindfulness activities affect flow experiences among collegiate double bass music students, and 2) how do mindfulness activities affect students’ perception of self-care? The interviews were transcribed, coded using “concept coding” (Miler, Huberman, & Saldaña, 2020), and then grouped into categories, themes, and sub-themes. The themes were time, …
The Magic Of Love: Love Magic In Medieval Romance, Dalicia Raymond
The Magic Of Love: Love Magic In Medieval Romance, Dalicia Raymond
English Language and Literature ETDs
This project examines authorial representations of the morality of three functions of love magic: to induce, to disrupt, and to facilitate love in twelfth- through fifteenth-century Middle High German, Old French, and Middle English romances. Using a cultural studies approach with close textual analysis and informed by gender studies, it investigates medieval romance authors’ discomfort with love inducing magic and asserts that this discomfort is a response to the magic’s violation of free will, a central tenet of medieval theology. I find that authors condemn love inducing magic but mark specific instances acceptable through explicit clarification of divine approval. Love …
