Background: In the United States, total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is the most common performed orthopedic surgery, with over 700,000 cases per year. Overall, 21-25% underwent revision due to instability. Incorrect soft tissue balancing during the procedure can lead to improper alignment, flexion, and extension. Visualization of osteophytes in a 3D manner prior to removal is difficult and poses significant risks for improper balancing on TKA. Background: A decline in empathy has been noted in medical students in medical education and training. This decline raises concerns because empathic physician-patient interactions positively impact health outcomes and patient satisfaction. We tested the hypothesis that Reflection Rounds would increase empathy scores of third-year medical students.

Methods: Third-year students entering their Family and Community Medicine (FCM) clerkship completed the Jefferson Physician Scale of Empathy – Student Version (JPSE-S) at the onset of their clerkship; students at the Jefferson Campus site were assigned to the experimental group and students at Affiliate Sites were assigned to the control group. Project Background: Osteophytes are a common problem, affecting 2% of the United States population. For many elderly people, these osteophytes will cause them to seek medical attention. Due to the 2-D nature of MRIs and CT scans, it can be difficult to gain a complete understanding of the complicated soft tissue structures surrounding the joint when performing a Total Knee Arthroplasty(TKA). Without proper removal of osteophytes and correct soft tissue balancing, there is an increased rate of revisional surgery. An importance of Mosaic traditions for understanding of Jesus’ transiguration has been long noticed by many distinguished students of the New Testament.  While the role of Mosaic motifs found in the Hebrew Bible has been duly acknowledged, often in these studies one can see a glaring neglect for extra-biblical Mosaic developments that might also constituted a conceptual background of Jesus’ metamorphosis on the mountain. The puropse of this paper is to explore early para-biblical traditions in which the son of Amraam was understood not merely as a prophet, but as a divine figure.

Cosmographical Warfare: Secrecy And Heroism In Juan De Miramontes's Armas Antárticas, Jason Mccloskey

This article examines the historical and cultural significance of cosmography in the early modern Spanish Empire, as seen in Juan de Miramontes Zuázola’s seventeenth-century epic poem, Armas antárticas (2006). It takes the description of a pilot in the harbor of Callao, Peru, on the eve of Francis Drake’s arrival at the port as its point of departure. The essay examines the portrayal of cosmography as a “secret science”, to use the words of María M. Portuondo (2009). The poem suggests that Drake’s surprise attack was made possible by cosmographical knowledge. It also depicts cosmography as a countermeasure to combat future …

Do Arthropods Respond To Noxious Stimuli Purely By Reflex?, Robert W. Elwood

Mikhalevich & Powell (2020) argue that it is wrong to dismiss the idea of sentience in invertebrates. Here, I expand on the evidence for crustaceans responding to noxious stimuli in ways that are not explained by mere reflexes, and that are consistent with pain. I consider the idea that male praying mantids must not feel pain because they may continue to mate whilst being consumed by the female. I finish with thoughts about the idea that because robots may be constructed to act as if they experience pain, the argument that animals might experience pain is diminished.

This study examined the effects of differentiated reading instruction (DRI) on the reading comprehension and self-efficacy of undergraduate students. The study indicated their improvement in both areas after the intervention. Thirty-three students attending the course of English for Scientists were chosen for the study. The pre-test in reading comprehension and the self-efficacy questionnaire were administered before the intervention. The scores of the pre-test of reading comprehension were used to divide the students into two groups according to their level of reading proficiency: lower-proficiency level students and higher-proficiency level students. วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ศึกษาความไม่สมบูรณ์ในกระบวนการคัดเลือกศิลปินระดับชาติทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์และนำข้อมูลมาสร้างสรรค์ผลงานนาฏยศิลป์ ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อค้นหารูปแบบและแนวคิดที่ได้หลังจากการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ โดยใช้รูปแบบงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพและงานวิจัยเชิงสร้างสรรค์ที่มีการศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสารทางวิชาการ การสัมภาษณ์ การสังเกตการณ์ การสัมมนา สื่อสารสนเทศ เกณฑ์การสร้างมาตรฐานการยกย่องบุคคลต้นแบบทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์ และประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวของผู้วิจัย ซึ่งนำข้อมูลมาตรวจสอบ วิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์ และสร้างสรรค์ผลงานนาฏยศิลป์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า รูปแบบของนาฏยศิลป์สร้างสรรค์ในครั้งนี้สามารถจำแนกตามองค์ประกอบของนาฏยศิลป์ 8 องค์ประกอบได้แก่ 1) บทการแสดง โดยแบ่งเป็น 7 องก์การแสดงตามเกณฑ์มาตรฐานยกย่องศิลปิน ฯ มาจัดหมวดหมู่ใหม่ 2) นักแสดง มีทักษะด้านนาฏยศิลป์ไทย นาฏยศิลป์ตะวันตก บัลเลต์คลาสสิค และทักษะศิลปะละคร จำนวน 12 คน 3) ลีลานาฏยศิลป์ ใช้ลีลาการเคลื่อนไหวในชีวิตประจำวัน นาฏยศิลป์สมัยใหม่ การเคลื่อนไหวบัลเลต์คลาสสิค การใช้ศิลปะการละครรูปแบบนาฏยศิลป์การแสดง 4) การออกแบบอุปกรณ์ประกอบการแสดง การใช้อุปกรณ์ชีวิตประจำวัน ได้แก่ ถ้วยรางวัล แฟ้มสีดำ ผ้าสีขาว พู่กัน ไฟฉาย และถุงมือ 5) การออกแบบเสียงและเครื่องดนตรี ใช้เครื่องดนตรีที่หลากหลายในการบรรเลงดนตรี ได้แก่ โทน กู่เจิง จะเข้ ซออู้ โปงลาง และรำมะนาลำตัด 6) การออกแบบเครื่องแต่งกาย ใช้เครื่องแต่งกายแบบสากลนิยม การใช้ผ้าที่บางเพื่อสะท้อนถึงความโปร่งใสของกระบวนการ 7) การออกแบบพื้นที่การแสดง ใช้โรงละคร แบล็ค บ๊อกซ์ เธียเตอร์ (Black Box Theatre) ที่มีลักษณะสี่เหลี่ยม 8) การออกแบบแสง ใช้แสงสื่อถึงบรรยากาศ เช่น แสงสีแดงแสดงถึงความวิกฤตของศิลปิน นอกจากนี้มีแนวคิดที่ได้หลังจากการสร้างสรรค์ผลงาน โดยคำนึงถึงแนวคิดที่สำคัญ 7 ประการ ได้แก่ 1) การคำนึงถึงความไม่สมบูรณ์ในกระบวนการคัดเลือกศิลปิน 2) การคำนึงถึงการสะท้อนสภาพของสังคม 3) การคำนึงถึงการสื่อสารกับผู้ชมและคนในสังคม 4) การคำนึงถึงความคิดสร้างสรรค์ในงานนาฏยศิลป์ 5) การคำนึงถึงการใช้สัญลักษณ์ในการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์ 6) การคำนึงถึงความหลากหลายของรูปแบบการแสดง 7) การคำนึงถึงทฤษฎีนาฏยศิลป์ ดุริยางคศิลป์และทัศนศิลป์ ซึ่งผลการวิจัยทั้งหมดนี้สอดคล้องกับวัตถุประสงค์ทุกประการทั้งนี้การวิจัยในครั้งนี้เป็นการรวบรวมองค์ความรู้ทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์เชื่อมโยงประสบการณ์และพัฒนากระบวนการสร้างสรรค์ให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อวงการวิชาการและวงการนาฏยศิลป์ ตลอดจนเป็นแนวทางในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานของผู้สร้างสรรค์ผลงานในอนาคต

วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาคำวิจารณ์คุณสมบัติการเป็นนาฏยศิลปินของนราพงษ์ จรัสศรี ที่เป็นลายลักษณ์อักษรตามที่ได้ลงทะเบียนไว้กับสมาพันธ์นักแสดงของสหราชอาณาจักร (Actor's equity members) ทั้งสิ้น 15 คำวิจารณ์ และคำวิจารณ์จากนักวิจารณ์ ผู้ที่เคยร่วมงานและศิษย์ของนราพงษ์ จรัสศรี ในประเทศไทย ทั้งสิ้น 21 คำวิจารณ์ จากนั้นนำข้อมูลคำวิจารณ์ดังกล่าวมาสร้างสรรค์เป็นผลงานนาฏยศิลป์ ซึ่งมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อหารูปแบบและแนวคิดที่ได้หลังจากการสร้างสรรค์นาฏยศิลป์จากคำวิจารณ์คุณสมบัติการเป็นนาฏยศิลปินของนราพงษ์ จรัสศรี โดยใช้รูปแบบงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพและงานวิจัยเชิงสร้างสรรค์ที่มีการศึกษาข้อมูลจากเอกสารที่เกี่ยวข้องกับหัวข้องานวิจัย การสัมภาษณ์ สื่อสารสนเทศ การสังเกตการณ์ การสัมมนาวิชาการ เกณฑ์การสร้างมาตรฐานในการยกย่องบุคคลต้นแบบทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์และประสบการณ์ส่วนตัวของผู้วิจัย มาเป็นแนวทางในการวิเคราะห์ สังเคราะห์และสร้างสรรค์ผลงานนาฏยศิลป์ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า รูปแบบของนาฏยศิลป์สร้างสรรค์ในครั้งนี้ แบ่งออกเป็น 8 องค์ประกอบการแสดง ได้แก่ 1) บทการแสดง ที่ได้มาจากคำวิจารณ์คุณสมบัติการเป็นนาฏยศิลปินของนราพงษ์ จรัสศรี ซึ่งแบ่งออกเป็นหมวดหมู่ได้ 6 คุณสมบัติ ตามชื่อองก์การแสดงทั้งหมด 6 องก์ ได้แก่ องก์ 1 ลึกลับ องก์ 2 หลงใหล องก์ 3 แปลก องก์ 4 ตะวันออกและตะวันตก องก์ 5 สรีระและองก์ 6 คุณธรรม 2) นักแสดงไม่จำกัดเพศที่มีทักษะความสามารถทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์ตะวันออก นาฏยศิลป์ตะวันตก นาฏยศิลป์ร่วมสมัยและนักแสดงที่ไม่ได้รับการฝึกฝนทางด้านนาฏยศิลป์ (Untrained Dancer) 3) ลีลานาฏยศิลป์ ใช้ลีลาการเคลื่อนไหวแบบมินิมอลลิสม์ (Minimalism) การเคลื่อนไหวแบบในชีวิตประจำวัน (Everyday Movement) การเคลื่อนไหวอย่างมีอิสระ (Free Spirit) ลีลานาฏยศิลป์ตะวันออก ลีลานาฏยศิลป์ตะวันตกและลีลาการเคลื่อนไหวแบบสงบนิ่งหรือแบบการทำสมาธิ (Meditation) 4) เสียงและดนตรีที่ใช้ประกอบการแสดง ใช้เครื่องดนตรีตะวันออกที่มาจากหลายวัฒนธรรม 5) อุปกรณ์ประกอบการแสดง ออกแบบโดยคำถึงถึงบทการแสดงและความหมายของการแสดงในแต่ละองก์ 6) เครื่องแต่งกาย ใช้ในรูปแบบมินิมอลลิสม์ (Minimalism) 7) พื้นที่การแสดง ใช้โรงละครในลักษณะ แบล็ค บ๊อกซ์ เธียเตอร์ (Black Box Theatre) …

บทประพันธ์เพลง ดุษฎีนิพนธ์งานวิจัยสร้างสรรค์: วีรสตรี 'ย่าโม' สำหรับวงวินด์ซิมโฟนี เป็นผลงานการประพันธ์ประเภทดนตรีพรรณนาเพื่อยกย่องเชิดชูวีรสตรีแห่งสยามผู้ปกป้องแผ่นดินเกิดอันเป็นที่รักจากการรุกรานของศัตรู ความกล้าหาญ ความจงรักภักดี และความรักชาติของย่าโม เป็นสัญลักษณ์และความภาคภูมิใจของชาวโคราช เมืองที่ได้รับสมญานามว่าเป็นประตูสู่อีสาน ผลงานประพันธ์นี้ยังต้องการสื่อถึงคุณความดีและเรื่องราวในประวัติศาสตร์ สุนทรียะของเพลงพื้นบ้านโคราชที่นำมาบูรณาการกับบทบาทลีลาดนตรีตะวันตก มีการพัฒนาทำนองเพลงด้วยเทคนิคการด้นสดและการแปรท่วงทำนอง โดยใช้เพลงพื้นบ้าน 3 เพลงเป็นหลัก คือ 1) เพลงรำวงโคราช 2) เพลงกล่อมลูกโคราช 3) เพลงพื้นเมืองโคราช นอกจากนั้นยังมีการใช้ทำนองแปรอิสระ การสร้างสีสันเสียง การผสมผสานดนตรีหลากมิติ การไล่เรียงเสียงโมทีฟ การทวนทำนอง การเอื้อนในโน้ตประดับ และการจัดพื้นผิวแนวตั้งและแนวนอน บทเพลงสะท้อนถึงความรักและศรัทธาในวัฒนธรรมถิ่นเกิด ความภาคภูมิใจในวีรสตรี 'ย่าโม' สุนทรียะและมรดกวัฒนธรรมเสียงถูกถ่ายทอดผ่านคีตลักษณ์ที่แบ่งเป็น 3 ท่อน คือ ท่อนที่ 1 บ้านเอ๋ง ท่อนที่ 2 อิสรภาพ และท่อนที่ 3 โคราชต้อนรับ บทประพันธ์ใช้เวลาในการแสดงทั้งสิ้น 40 นาที

แนวคิดการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรมในการสร้างสรรค์ละครชาตรีร่วมสมัย : กรณีศึกษาการกำกับการแสดงเรื่อง พายุพิโรธ, ชาคร ชะม้าย

งานวิจัยนี้ศึกษาการกำกับการแสดงละครชาตรีร่วมสมัยเรื่องพายุพิโรธผ่านแนวคิดการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรม ผู้วิจัยในฐานะผู้กำกับการแสดง ศึกษาการสร้างสรรค์จากบทละครเรื่องพายุพิโรธ แปลจาก The Tempest ของ วิลเลียม เชกสเปียร์ (William Shakespeare) และละครชาตรี เพื่อค้นหาแก่นความคิดหลัก(Theme) และวิธีการนำเสนอ(Style) ที่สามารถสื่อสารหลัก(Message) จากบทละครควบคู่กับอัตลักษณ์ละครชาตรี เพื่อแสดงให้เห็นว่าการแสดงจากต่างวัฒนธรรมสามารถนำมาสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกันได้ ผู้วิจัยศึกษาแนวคิดการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรมและการกำกับการแสดงละครชาตรีร่วมสมัยเพื่อสร้างแนวทางกำกับ ก่อนนำเข้าสู่กระบวนการสร้างและจัดแสดง ผลการศึกษาผู้วิจัยพบว่ากระบวนการกำกับการแสดงด้วยแนวคิดการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรมหลักสำคัญคือ การกำหนดแก่นความคิดหลักของผู้กำกับการแสดงที่มีความเป็นสากล(Universality) เพื่อผสานอัตลักษณ์การแสดงจากทั้งสองวัฒนธรรม ทั้งในแง่ความคิดและรูปแบบที่จะส่งผลต่อทุกองค์ประกอบการแสดง ในทุกกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์จะต้องตระหนักถึงการแลกเปลี่ยนระหว่างวัฒนธรรม(Cultural exchange) บนพื้นฐานความเคารพอย่างจริงใจต่ออัตลักษณ์และรากเหง้าวัฒนธรรม(Cultural Source) ส่งผลให้การพิจารณาบริบทสังคมและประเด็นร่วมสมัยของการแสดงนั้น ก็เพื่อมองหาศักยภาพในการสร้างสรรค์ร่วมกันของทั้งสองการแสดง เพื่อให้เกิดนิเวศการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรม(Intercultural performative ecology) ที่ผลักดันการปะทะสังสรรค์ร่วมกันอย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ ผู้วิจัยได้ข้อสรุปว่าการกำกับการแสดงละครชาตรีร่วมสมัยเรื่องพายุพิโรธ เริ่มต้นจากวัตถุดิบการแสดง ทั้งบทละครพายุพิโรธและละครชาตรีว่าสร้างแรงบันดาลใจอย่างไรแก่ผู้กำกับในฐานะศิลปิน ซึ่งไม่มีหลักการตายตัว ข้อถกเถียงในประเด็นการรักษาสมดุลระหว่างการอนุรักษ์หรือพัฒนาจึงไม่ควรจะต้องแบ่งแยกประเภทเพราะขึ้นอยู่กับเป้าหมายของศิลปิน แนวคิดการแสดงข้ามวัฒนธรรมจึงเป็นการสร้างการแสดงในกระแส โลกาภิวัตน์ที่ส่งผลให้ศิลปินทั่วทุกพื้นที่สามารถเชื่อมต่อและแลกเปลี่ยนการแสดงจากต่างวัฒนธรรม เพื่อนำมาสร้างสรรค์บนบริบทการแสดงร่วมสมัยที่เปิดโอกาสให้นำเอาอัตลักษณ์การแสดงจากทุกพื้นที่วัฒนธรรมมาใช้สร้างสรรค์ ซึ่งเป็นปรากฏการณ์การแสดงที่ยังคงดำเนินต่อไป

ประโยคกรรมวาจกในภาษาไทยสามารถแสดงนัยยะเชิงบวกหรือเชิงลบที่ผู้ส่งสารมีต่อเหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้น ในขณะที่ภาษาสเปนไม่สามารถทำได้ อีกทั้งภาษาสเปนยังมีโครงสร้างที่ไม่ปรากฏในภาษาไทย ได้แก่ ประโยคกรรมวาจกประเภท pasiva refleja การศึกษาการแปลประโยคกรรมวาจกโดยไม่เปลี่ยนแปลงความหมายของต้นฉบับจึงเป็นเรื่องน่าสนใจ ทั้งนี้ วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษากลวิธีการแปลประโยคกรรมวาจกจากภาษาสเปนเป็นภาษาไทย โดยได้ทำการวิเคราะห์บทแปลข่าวจากภาษาสเปนเป็นภาษาไทยที่แปลโดยสำนักภาษาต่างประเทศ สำนักงานเลขาธิการสภาผู้แทนราษฎรจำนวน 198 ข่าว จากผลการวิเคราะห์การแปลประโยคประเภท pasiva perifrástica จำนวน 161 ประโยคและการแปลประโยคประเภท pasiva refleja จำนวน 213 ประโยค พบว่ากลวิธีที่ใช้ในการแปลประโยคประเภท pasiva perifrástica มากที่สุดคือกลวิธีการแปลด้วยประโยคกรรมวาจกที่ปรากฏตัวบ่งชี้ ถูก และกลวิธีที่ใช้ในการแปลประโยคประเภท pasiva refleja มากที่สุดคือกลวิธีการเติมประธานด้วยการตีความจากบริบท ในแง่ของปัจจัยในการเลือกใช้กลวิธี พบว่าความใกล้เคียงกับโครงสร้างประโยคต้นฉบับเป็นปัจจัยหลักในการเลือกกลวิธีในการแปล ส่วนปัจจัยอื่น ๆ ได้แก่การยึดติดกับขนบการแปลดั้งเดิมของผู้แปลและความหมายเชิงบวก เชิงลบ หรือเป็นกลางของประโยคที่แปล

งานวิจัยเรื่องการสร้างสรรค์และการบรรจุเพลงประกอบการแสดงของครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาชีวประวัติและผลงานของครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด และเพื่อศึกษาวิธีการสร้างสรรค์และการบรรจุเพลงประกอบการแสดงของครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด ครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด เกิดเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2494 เป็นชาวจังหวัดพัทลุง เริ่มฝึกหัดดนตรีด้วยตัวเองตั้งแต่วัยเด็ก จากนั้นก็ฝึกเป่าปี่จนมีความรู้ความชำนาญในการบรรเลงเครื่องดนตรีโนราและหนังตะลุงในทุก ๆ ชิ้น โดยเฉพาะปี่ ในการวิเคราะห์เพลงประกอบการแสดงของครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด พบว่า การแสดงทั้ง 16 ชุดการแสดง ใช้เพลงจำนวนทั้งหมด 73 เพลง ทั้ง 73 เพลงนั้นเป็นเพลงที่ครูอำนาจ นุ่นเอียด ได้ประพันธ์ขึ้นใหม่เป็นจำนวน 14 เพลง ครูอำนาจประพันธ์โดยใช้วิธีการพลิกแพลงทำนองจากทำนองเพลงเดิมที่มีอยู่ การยุบโดยตรงและการยุบโดยวิธีการพลิกแพลงทำนองจากเพลงเดิมที่มีอยู่ ในการศึกษายังพบลักษณะแบบแผนการซ้ำทำนองในหลาย ๆ แบบเช่นเดียวกับเพลงพื้นบ้านภาคใต้ที่ครูนำมาเรียบเรียงไว้ในการแสดง มีการเปลี่ยนบันไดเสียงและใช้เสียงหลุมเพื่อให้เกิดสำเนียงที่ไพเราะอ่อนหวาน และยังมีลักษณะที่โดดเด่นอื่น ๆ อยู่อีก 5 ประการได้แก่ 1) การใช้เสียงโดดเด่น หรือที่เรียกว่า Pillar Tone 2) การย้ำทำนอง 3) การใช้กระสวนจังหวะของทำนองแบบคงที่ 4) การใช้ทำนองโอดพัน และ 5) การใช้ทำนองฉายรูป

The Timpanogos Indians--the original inhabitants of Utah Valley--lived in villages along the Timpanogos (Provo) River and the shores of Timpanogos (Utah) Lake. But they regularly climbed the nearby bench--a large delta shaped by ancient wave action as Lake Bonneville began to drain. Although the rocky sagebrush-covered bench was not suitable for cultivation since it had no natural streams, the Timpanogos went there to find crickets and rodents or to hunt the antelope, deer, elk, and bison that grazed freely throughout the foothills, benches, and floors of the valley.

The scope of this study investigates how Black undergraduate students navigate the discipline of political science. This study is exploring how institutional policy levers impact retention for African American/Black women undergraduate students at a private four-year predominantly white institution in a mid-western state of the United States. Retention of African American/Black women undergraduate students is not a widely researched area. In this exploratory case study, eight African American/Black undergraduate junior and senior women, ten administrators and one focus group of six African American/Black women were interviewed. Given that pedagogical approaches that challenge dominant language ideologies are not yet well represented in WAC/WID scholarship, this chapter outlines a transdisciplinary framework for developing translingual pedagogies. The framework is built around the notion of transfronterizo/ a collaborators because before instructors can engage their students in exploring and challenging their views toward language, instructors must first critically interrogate their own. This interrogation must consider the unique political, social, economic, and linguistic exigencies of where an institution is located.
