Richard Keith Call, was born in Prince George County, Virginia, 1791. His father, Major William Call, was of high standing and influence, who had rendered distinguished service in the Revolutionary war. Major Call had possessed a large fortune; but after the war reverses came, his estate was embarrassed, and when he died very little was left, after the payment of all debts, for the support of his widow and children.

The foundation of cultural property laws was laid at the Hague Convention on the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict. The convention, which usually revolved around the discussions on former laws of warfare, had to switch gears to respond to the Nazi’s new tactic of intentionally stealing or destroying cultural property as a means to demoralize the enemy. The convention’s focus was inclusivity, which defined cultural property as any “movable or immovable property of great importance to the cultural heritage of every people.”

Public education systems institutionalize the socialization process which directly disseminates cultural and national values and assimilates the population through mass education. But how does colonial-era anti-Black racism persist in the higher education institutions of contemporary postcolonial societies? Using the Federative Republic of Brazil as a case study, I examine the effects of incomplete decolonization, anti-Blackness, and the role of history, economics, and pedagogy on social outcomes that exclude and marginalize Black and other minority groups. The Brazilian higher education system follows a pattern centered around anti-Black racism which serves to disempower Black, Brown, and Indigenous populations during the colonial and …

“When It’S Time To Come Together, We Come Together”: Reconceptualizing Theories Of Self-Efficacy For Health Information Practices Within Lgbtqia+ Communities, Alexander N. Vera, Travis L. Wagner, Vanessa L. Kitzie

Student Publications

This chapter addresses the shortcomings of current self-efficacy models describing the health information practices of LGBTQIA+ communities. Informed by semi-structured interviews with 30 LGBTQIA+ community leaders from South Carolina, findings demonstrate how their self-efficacy operates beyond HIV/AIDS research while complicating traditional models that isolate an individual’s health information practices from their abundant communal experiences. Findings also suggest that participants engage with health information and resources in ways deemed unhealthy or harmful by healthcare providers. However, such practices are nuanced, and participants carefully navigate them, balancing concerns for community safety and well-being over traditional engagements with healthcare infrastructures. In 1862, the United States government established Hammond General Hospital at Point Lookout in St. Mary’s County, Maryland for the treatment of Union soldiers. In response, enslaved people in Maryland and Virginia began escaping to Point Lookout, and a contraband camp was soon formed. Even though official policies that governed the treatment of “contrabands” drastically changed between 1861 and 1865, many of these policies did not apply to the state of Maryland. As a result, these individuals faced repeated threats to their safety and well-being. Yet, the level of protection that these refugees received improved over time due to the …

أثبت البحث أن طول الأمل يورث حب الدنياوالركون إليها ، وقصر النظر يقود المؤمن لإدراك حقارة الدنيا ويحمله للعمل الصالح لأجل الآخرة . كما بين البحث انشغال الناس بالدنيا ، حتى أصبح طول الأمل ظاهرة تحكم أمورهم وتصرفاتهم، وذكّر بضرورة ذكر الله تعالى ، وذكر الموت لأنه يعين المؤمن على العمل للآخرة ، وألا تكون الدنيا أكبر همه ، ولا مبلغ علمه . ومن أهم النتائج : امتثال أوامر الله تعالى ، واجتناب نواهيه توجب مرضاة الله تعالى والفوز بالجنة . وطول الأمل يورث الغفلة التي تورد صاحبها المهالك
