Religious Conversions And Religious Diversification In Interwar Yugoslavia And Slovenia, Gašper Mithans
Religious Conversions And Religious Diversification In Interwar Yugoslavia And Slovenia, Gašper Mithans
Occasional Papers on Religion in Eastern Europe
With the foundation of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes, the respective nationalities and ethnic communities were faced with the reality of a multi-confessional state. Internal migration and minority policy, in particular, set in motion a slow diversification in the religious sphere, even in the ethnically and religiously extremely homogeneous territory of Slovenia. This paper aims to analyze the role that religious converts—who were largely former Catholics—played during the interwar period in Slovenian regions in the phenomenon of the gradual transformation of the religious landscape over a long period of time. Converts were an important part of almost all …

“Descending Into Eeriness”: Navigating “The Uncanny Valley” Present In Hollywood Adaptations Of Japanese Narratives, Megan Jo Finley
“Descending Into Eeriness”: Navigating “The Uncanny Valley” Present In Hollywood Adaptations Of Japanese Narratives, Megan Jo Finley
Theses and Dissertations
Hollywood adaptations of Japanese stories derived from manga have failed to connect with a Western audience, and not for a lack of fan interest. Instead, the core issues one encounters are matters of mistranslation, which construct the fatal flaws of American adaptations of manga. In my research, I identify three major errors in adaptation typically present in these narratives. First, I discuss mistranslations of story via analysis of Netflix’s 2017 adaptation of Death Note, which includes plot reduction for the sake of time and budget restraints, as well as conflict rearrangement to fit the traditional Hollywood mold. Next, I discuss …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Abstract
The primary purpose of this article is to do classification and thematic analysis of previous research on customer frustration using a systematic mapping study (SMS). The main research was carried out by combining automatic and manual search. The automatic search was through electronic journal database references: ProQuest Research Library, EBSCOhost: Academic Search Complete, Google Scholar, Emerald Insight and Scopus, while the manual one was performed on Google search with the snowball sampling method. A total of 28 studies on costumer frustration in the form of journal articles and proceedings were included in the inclusion criteria. The results of the …

Translation Of: Place: Derrida And Nishitani, Rolf Elberfeld, Steven Burik
Translation Of: Place: Derrida And Nishitani, Rolf Elberfeld, Steven Burik
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
In his works Chora [Derrida, Jacques. 1993. Khôra. Paris: Galilée] and “Comment ne pas parler? Denegations” Derrida used the metaphor chora from Plato’s Timaeus (49a and following) to continue his struggle with the metaphysics of presence. In 1926 Nishida, the founder of the Japanese Kyōto School, used the same metaphor to create a new foundation of philosophy. Nishitani, a disciple of Nishida, developed the work of Nishida in close connection to Zen Buddhist experiences. Derrida tries to show the limits of language within the game of language, whereas Nishitani starts from an experience beyond language, but tries to make …

Zhao Xiaosheng And His Original Piano Solo Works, Ke Xue
Zhao Xiaosheng And His Original Piano Solo Works, Ke Xue
Student Works (2020-2029)
As an influential composer in contemporary Chinese piano development, Zhao Xiaosheng has made outstanding contributions through his piano compositions, including original piano solos, transcriptions, etudes, concertos, and impromptus. His six original piano solos illustrate the development of his compositional career, which coincided with the development of Chinese new music from the period of the Cultural Revolution to the Reform and Opening-up. Therefore, in the context of Chinese new music, this research attempts to study Zhao Xiaosheng’s contributions by looking into his six original piano solo works, namely Textile Worker (纺织工人) (1974), Fisherman’s Song (渔歌) (1975), Ballade in D♭ Major (D♭大调叙事曲) …
A Comparative Genre Analysis Of Malaysian And English Court Of Appeal Judgements, Chamil Ahmad Zaki
A Comparative Genre Analysis Of Malaysian And English Court Of Appeal Judgements, Chamil Ahmad Zaki
Student Works (2020-2029)
This genre-based research examines and compares the rhetorical structures of Malaysia and England and Wales Court of Appeal judgements. This comparative genre study is motivated by a statement by the former Malaysian Judge of the High Court, Dato’ Syed Ahmad Idid and Umar A. Oseni (2011) in a writing guide book that presents a standard model to write legal judgements that can be adapted to all legal jurisdictions across the world. Normativity statements about the dos and don’ts on how to write judgements are valid and essential to the legal practices but this normative approach does not necessarily describe the …
The Digital Subversion Of Urban Space: Power, Performance And Grime, Orlando Woods
The Digital Subversion Of Urban Space: Power, Performance And Grime, Orlando Woods
Research Collection School of Social Sciences
Digital technologies play an increasingly prominent role in the reproduction of society and space. Rather than being studied as a separate category of understanding, the ways in which such technologies intersect with and inflect upon the real world has provided a recent focus of research. Urban music is inherently spatial, but the ways in which digital technologies have enabled artists to resist injustice, to reproduce space and to reclaim the right to the city has not yet been considered. This article fills the lacuna by exploring how grime artists harness digital technologies to resist marginalization by the mainstream and create …
