Frankenstein’S Fixations: A Psychoanalytic Evolutionary Approach To Childhood, Sexuality, And Outsiders, Kaitlin Harris May 2019

Frankenstein’S Fixations: A Psychoanalytic Evolutionary Approach To Childhood, Sexuality, And Outsiders, Kaitlin Harris

Ursidae: The Undergraduate Research Journal at the University of Northern Colorado

By using Frankenstein as a case study, my project explores readers’ and characters’ experiences with others who might appear threatening. Furthermore, I intend to apply theories from psychoanalysis and evolutionary psychology to deconstruct the ambiguity of relations with others and the self in answering: can a psychoanalytic reading of Frankenstein display how evolutionary literary criticism, sublime, and the uncanny affect and inform us about human relations. My argument has displayed how castigating a living being away from society recapitulates an evolutionary cycle of unconscious abuse which the critics, themselves, have also encountered.

Between Two Worlds: Memory And The French-Algerian (Pied-Noir) Experience, Darian Martinez May 2019

Between Two Worlds: Memory And The French-Algerian (Pied-Noir) Experience, Darian Martinez

Ursidae: The Undergraduate Research Journal at the University of Northern Colorado

This paper expands our understanding of colonialism by analyzing the experiences of two French colonists in Algeria and how they were affected by colonialism, Algerian culture, and Independence in 1962. France occupied Algeria for 132 years, so that by Independence, there were more than one million people of French descent in the country. After Algeria claimed its independence, these French citizens, who called themselves “Pieds-Noirs” (black feet), were forced to repatriate to France, a country many had never seen.

This research compared and analyzed two autobiographies, Ma mère l’Algérie by Jean Pélégri and Hier est proche d’aujourd’hui by Jeanne Cheula, …

The Benefits Of Utilizing Earned Media For Emerging Pop Music Artists: A Case Study In Music Publicity, Brianna Bell May 2019

The Benefits Of Utilizing Earned Media For Emerging Pop Music Artists: A Case Study In Music Publicity, Brianna Bell

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

Publicists play a significant role in achieving the short-term and long-term career goals of emerging pop music artists. Therefore, this study researches earned media within the pop music industry through a case study that analyzes the publicity strategies used by the teams of three successful pop music artists. This study finds that publicity is a cost-effective solution to the problems of declining music sales and the need to stand out in a saturated industry, and it provides seven best practices that are supported by industry professionals for publicists to use when creating campaigns that generate awareness and establish reputation.
