Évelyne Trouillot’s novels, short stories, poetry, children’s stories, and play—not to mention her interviews, op. ed. pieces, and academic articles—introduce us to chapters of Haiti’s history spanning roughly two hundred and fifty years. From a plantation in the former French colony of Saint-Domingue during the 1750s to present-day, postearthquake Haiti, the experiences, trials, and tragically haunting memories of her characters serve to bring into focus countless rifts in the country’s complex and often conflicted past. The Aleppo minbar (pulpit for Friday sermons) is a monumental architectural sculpture commissioned in the middle of the 12th century in Aleppo, Syria, by Nur al-Din al-Zangi, who was ruling from Damascus. Envisioning the end of the Crusades, Nur al-Din sought to place the minbar in the Aqsa Mosque after Muslims reclaimed Jerusalem, where it was installed in 1187 by the Ayyubid ruler, Saladin. Richly ornamented with many geometric forms and designs, the wooden minbar expresses an algorithmic Islamic aesthetic based on symmetry, with patterns that imply an infinite expanse contained within borders. This article analyzes four contemporary short stories written by Basque author Eider Rodríguez that address women’s obstacles and oppressive conditions in the labor market. Using the theories of feminist economists such as Amaia Pérez Orozco, Cristina Carrasco Bengoa, and Lourdes Benería, I analyze how in these narratives women are forced to leave their paid jobs when becoming mothers, being reduced to a maternal and domestic identity, or they try to reconcile their professional and family life, thus suffering physical and mental exhaustion and emotional instability. The antidote to the growing challenges posed by this digital revolution is news literacy. How do environments affect the generation and development of religions? The investigation taken up in this dissertation is one attempt to address this question. This work focuses on one comparative case study: the potential causal relationship between agriculturally marginal landscapes and the two oldest religions deemed monotheistic. This dissertation argues that the respective origins (and early development) of communities of worship centered around Ahura Mazda and YHWH were affected by similar environmental contexts. วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างภาษากับภาพตัวแทนของบุคคลพ้นโทษในวาทกรรมสนับสนุนบุคคลพ้นโทษในสื่อสาธารณะ ด้วยแนววาทกรรมวิเคราะห์เชิงวิพากษ์ตามแนวภาษาศาสตร์ เก็บข้อมูลวาทกรรมที่มีเนื้อหากล่าวถึงบุคคลพ้นโทษในเชิงสนับสนุนจากสื่อที่เผยแพร่สู่สาธารณชนในวงกว้าง ได้แก่ หนังสือพิมพ์รายวัน 6 ชื่อฉบับ เว็บไซต์ของหน่วยงานราชการที่เกี่ยวข้อง วารสารราชทัณฑ์ และวีดิทัศน์รายการโทรทัศน์ที่มีเนื้อหาเกี่ยวข้อง โดยศึกษาข้อมูลที่เผยแพร่ในระหว่างปี พ.ศ. 2553 – 2560 ปี พ.ศ. 2553 เป็นปีที่กระทรวงยุติธรรมเริ่มนำแนวคิด “คืนคนดีสู่สังคม” มาใช้ในงานราชทัณฑ์ ผลการวิเคราะห์กลวิธีทางภาษาในการนำเสนอภาพตัวแทน พบกลวิธีทางภาษาได้แก่ การเลือกใช้คำหรือกลุ่มคำ การใช้ประโยคที่สัมพันธ์กันแบบเหตุ – ผล การใช้ประโยคที่สัมพันธ์กันแบบขัดแย้ง การใช้ประโยคที่สัมพันธ์กันแบบเงื่อนไข การใช้อุปลักษณ์ การใช้สำนวน การใช้มูลบท การใช้คำถามเชิงวาทศิลป์ การใช้สหบท การใช้เสียงของบุคคลพ้นโทษ และ การให้รายละเอียด ภาพตัวแทนที่ประกอบสร้างจากกลวิธีทางภาษาเหล่านี้มีทั้งภาพตัวแทนด้านบวก ได้แก่ บุคคลพ้นโทษบางส่วนเป็นคนดีและไม่ได้กระทำผิดโดยสันดาน บุคคลพ้นโทษเป็นผู้ผ่านกระบวนการบำบัดฟื้นฟูอย่างดี บุคคลพ้นโทษเป็นผู้ที่ กลับตัวกลับใจเป็นคนดีแล้ว และบุคคลพ้นโทษบางส่วนเป็นผู้ประสบความสำเร็จในการดำเนินชีวิต ภาพตัวแทนด้านลบ ได้แก่ บุคคลพ้นโทษเป็นผู้มีประวัติการกระทำความผิดติดตัว บุคคลพ้นโทษคือคนที่ยังไม่เปลี่ยนแปลงพฤติกรรมและมีแนวโน้มจะ กระทำผิดซ้ำ และบุคคลพ้นโทษเป็นบุคคลที่น่าหวาดกลัวและมักสร้างความเดือดร้อนแก่สังคม และภาพตัวแทนที่มีหลายแง่มุม คือ บุคคลพ้นโทษเป็นผู้ด้อยโอกาสที่สังคมไม่ยอมรับและประสบปัญหาการดำเนินชีวิต เมื่อพิจารณาปัจจัยทางสังคมวัฒนธรรม พบว่างานราชทัณฑ์ไทย นโยบาย "คืนคนดีสู่สังคม" ปัญหาในกระบวนการบำบัดฟื้นฟูผู้ต้องขังและวาทกรรมข่าวเกี่ยวกับความล้มเหลวในการจัดการเรือนจำ ข้อจำกัดในด้านการประกอบอาชีพ อคติเดิมในสังคม วาทกรรมอื่นที่แข่งขันกับวาทกรรมสนับสนุนบุคคลพ้นโทษ แนวคิดเรื่องกฎแห่งกรรมในพระพุทธศาสนา และแนวคิดเรื่อง ความเมตตากรุณา น่าจะมีอิทธิพลในการประกอบสร้างภาพตัวแทนบุคคลพ้นโทษ ผลการวิเคราะห์ชี้ให้เห็นว่าการสื่อสารกับสังคมเพื่อสนับสนุนบุคคลพ้นโทษยังพบรูปภาษาหลายลักษณะที่ประกอบสร้างภาพตัวแทนด้านลบไปพร้อมกันด้วยโดยที่ผู้ผลิตวาทกรรมอาจไม่รู้ตัวซึ่งอาจส่งผลให้เกิดการตอกย้ำอคติเดิมในสังคม และอาจจะส่งผลกระทบต่อการดำเนินนโยบาย “คืนคนดีสู่สังคม” ความตระหนักรู้ถึงผลกระทบของรูปภาษาเหล่านี้อาจนำไปสู่ การปรับปรุงวิธีการเลือกใช้ภาษาในการนำเสนอประเด็นการสนับสนุนบุคคลพ้นโทษ การสื่อสารอย่างรอบคอบและระมัดระวังน่าจะช่วยลดอคติที่มีต่อบุคคลพ้นโทษและสร้างการยอมรับบุคคลพ้นโทษได้มากขึ้น

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่อง “เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ Bangkok Theater Festival นี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา ความเป็นมาและรูปแบบการแสดงของงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ผู้วิจัยศึกษาข้อมูลจาก เอกสาร สัมภาษณ์ การสังเกตการณ์และเข้าร่วมเป็นจิตอาสาในงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ในปีพ.ศ. 2562 ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาพบว่า เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นงานชุมนุมการแสดง โดยคณะละครและกลุ่มการแสดงต่าง ๆ ของคนรุ่นใหม่ในพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานคร เกิดจากการรวมตัวของกลุ่มละครได้ 10 กลุ่ม เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายทำให้เกิดเป็น เครือข่ายละครกรุงเทพ รวมถึงการเชื่อมโยงกลุ่มบุคคลต่าง ๆ กลุ่มคณะละคร กลุ่มศิลปินอิสระ กลุ่มอาจารย์ด้านการแสดงหลากหลายแขนง และรวมถึงกลุ่มนิสิต นักศึกษา จัดขึ้นปีละ 1 ครั้ง เริ่มจากปีพ.ศ. 2545 จนถึงปัจจุบัน รวมเป็น 18 ปี ความโดดเด่นของเทศกาลละครคือ การจัดงานเป็นประจำปีทุกปี ช่วงเดือนพฤศจิกายน มีความต่อเนื่องเป็นประจำ จึงทำให้เห็นถึงความสม่ำเสมอของการจัดงานเทศกาล การทำงานของงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ ทำให้เกิดพื้นที่สร้างสรรค์และพื้นที่ในการสร้างงานผ่านศิลปะการละคร รวมไปถึงศิลปะการแสดงในหลากหลายแขนง เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นเหมือนพื้นที่ให้กับกลุ่มคนทำละคร ได้มีพื้นที่ในการสร้างงานละคร และการแสดงต่าง ๆ เนื่องจากเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเปิดรับกลุ่มงานแสดงทุกประเภท ไม่ปิดกั้น จึงทำให้งานแต่ละชิ้นงานของศิลปินมีความหลากหลาย ผลิตงานละครและงานศิลปะให้มีเอกลักษณ์ที่ชัดเจนเพื่อสร้างความโดดเด่นและความแตกต่าง จึงส่งผลให้เทศกาลละครกรุงเทพเป็นที่น่าสนใจในกลุ่มคนทำละคร และกลุ่มละครที่ต้องการอยากจะทดลองทำงานได้เข้ามาสร้างสรรค์ผลงานผ่านงานเทศกาลละครกรุงเทพ เอกลักษณ์เฉพาะของเทศกาลคือมีรูปแบบที่เป็นของตนเอง เป็นปัจจัยหนึ่งที่มีตัวเลือกของงานละครและงานสร้างสรรค์ต่าง ๆ ให้ผู้ชมได้เลือกได้ด้วยตนเอง มีการขยายพื้นที่ จัดแสดงตามร้านอาหาร โรงละครในกรุงเทพมหานคร ทำให้เกิดการขยายฐานคนดูให้เพิ่มมากขึ้น โดยต้องการให้เทศกาลละคร สร้างตัวตนและงานละครให้มีการเติบโตกว้างขวาง รวมถึงเป็นกิจกรรมที่สำคัญที่ทำให้งานละครเข้ากับกลุ่มละครและผู้ชม พัฒนาศักยภาพของศิลปินการละครร่วมสมัยให้เกิดความยั่งยืนขยายพื้นที่การแสดงด้านศิลปะการละครร่วมสมัย ให้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งทั่วกรุงเทพมหานคร

Nietzsche influenced Strauss throughout the composer's mature career, from Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 (1896), which shares the same name as the treatise by Nietzsche, to Eine Alpensinfonie, Op. 64 (1911-15), which initially bore the title Der Antichrist, after Nietzsche's 1888 essay. Nietzsche, through Zarathustra, stresses the idea of the Übermensch, which proposes that the human occupies the stratum between the primal and the super-human. The Übermensch is not, however, the zenith for a man. The goal for man is rather his journey toward self-overcoming, his struggle within himself. In Ein Heldenleben (A Hero's Life, 1898), Strauss incorporates Nietzschean concepts …

This paper examines the musical Orientalism and representation of Oriental Others in Haydn's seraglio opera, L'incontro improvviso. In seraglio opera, one of the Turkish-themed musical genres of "Turcomania" that swept Europe in the eighteenth century, Oriental Others were defined by their supposed negative human traits such as slyness, crudeness or irrationality. Alla turca topos in L'incontro, as in other seraglio operas, are extensively used to accentuate the inferiority of Others, their customs or religions. The representation of Others demonstrates little ethical complexity, exhibiting a stark dichotomy between morally upright Westerners and unsophisticated Others with dubious morals. Many of Murakami's novels demonstrate his appropriation of the terminology, imagery and metaphor that are found in hardboiled detective fiction. The question of Haruki Murakami's use of the tropes from hardboiled detective stories has been discussed by scholars such as Hantke (2007), Stretcher (2002) and Suter (2008), who argue that the writer uses these features as a way to organize his narratives and to pay homage to one of his literary heroes, Raymond Chandler. This study examines the deployment of magical realism along with cinematic techniques in Song of the Sea. Analysing the animated film as a cultural text in light of magical realism, it argues that the film intermingles two different worlds, the mundane and the fantastic, to provide audiences with a more inclusive view of reality. Existent literature purports that providing White teacher candidates with increased exposure to urban schools in order to create culturally competent educators has failed. The authors focus on digital literacy and community service learning (CSL) strategies from research of Latinx undergraduate teacher candidates (TCs) engaged with technology in CSL courses. The qualitative studies have taken place in a tutorial agency and university classrooms in the Rio Grande Valley, Texas, one of the most economically-strapped U.S. regions. The 60 participants were Bussert-Webb’s TCs in Summer 2016 and Summer 2017 (n=28) and Lewis’s TCs in Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 courses (n=32). In 2013, Stefanie Hardekopf argued for the identification of the ‘Bankes Tomb’ with TT 64. Her arguments were convincing, but they lacked the ultimate proof, i.e. the presence of a cartouche of Thutmose IV in archival documents from the Bankes papers referring to the tomb. This short note provides further data, publishing a previously unstudied manuscript indeed holding a copy of the cartouches of Thutmose IV hanging from the neck of a hunter said to belong to the same tomb as the other fragments cut by Bankes. This edition of manuscript 633 from Yale University´s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library contains an unpublished version of Hernando de Baeza's chronicle History of the Moorish Kings of Granada. In it, Baeza narrates the decline of the Nasrid dynasty in the Kingdom of Granada during the fifteenth century. Written at the beginning of the following century, this work is a first-person account of palatial intrigues and diplomatic and military enterprises. This essay comments on the relegated importance of the textual variations of several short stories from Las fuerzas extrañas, by Leopoldo Lugones. It also reproduces the original versions of those stories to collate them with the ones in the final version of the book. The conclusion is reached that those variations are of a quantitative and qualitative importance greater than what is ordinarily assumed, and that they illuminate both the preparation of the book and its ultimate meaning. Finally, we also suggest that “Un fenómeno inexplicable” may have had its origin in a picture of Thomas Henry Huxley, the reputed …
