Finding aid only for Manuscripts Small Collection 3318. Letters to the Scott family of Ashland, Kentucky, chiefly to Sarah Asenath Scott from Fred Osborne, written from Clinchco, Virginia prior to their marriage. Fred refers to his work and health, their marriage plans, and a pending legal case. Other letters to Sarah are from childhood friends and classmates and friends of her mother. Includes a family letter to Sarah’s mother, and letters to her father from his sister and her children in Knoxville, Tennessee, which refer to farming operations and hopes for an improved economy under the new president, Franklin Roosevelt.

How Can We Know The Dance From The Dance?: Exploring The Complexity Of Staging Dance Legacy Works, Elizabeth Mcpherson

Journal of Movement Arts Literacy Archive (2013-2019)

Staging works from our rich concert dance heritage relies on determining what the “real” dance is, particularly when the work is no longer currently performed. Because choreographers frequently alter their choreography, creating multiple versions of a dance, identification of a definitive version can be a complex process. Adding to the complexity, there is the involvement of the stager, performers, and the audience who are each active or passive participants in the ultimate performance of a work. Abstract : Sir Alfred Munnings painted the Canadian Cavalry Brigade and the Canadian Forestry Corps as part of the Canadian War Memorials Fund during the First World War. In the first half of 1918, Munnings, England’s most renowned equine artist, depicted the Canadians in sketches and on canvas, and he eventually produced over 40 works of art. This article will explore Munnings’s interactions with the Canadian cavalrymen and lumberjacks in uniform, while providing additional insight into his works of art that are held at the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa.

Abstract: The Appalachian region in the southern mid-west has long been the source of stereotyping for dramatic and political affect. Through the course of nine years as a resident in an Appalachian community in south-central Kentucky, the author experienced life as it is lived by the local people. Through the establishment of an art education organization, the author became entwined with local families and became familiar with the origins of many of those stereotypes. Hearing on the Indian Reorganization Act—75 Years Later: Renewing Our Commitment to Restore Tribal Homelands and Promote Self-Determination. Members looked at the history of U.S. Indian Policy examining the original intent and legislative history of the Indian Reorganization Act [IRA] and subsequent amendment to the Act. Since 1934, the IRA has stood as the bedrock of Federal Indian policy. A 2009 Supreme Court decision narrowly construed the text of the IRA up-ending the status quo, which had existed for 75 years, contrary to Congressional intent, legislative history and previous affirmative actions by the Administration. Child, written on letterhead of the Office of the Maysville and Lexington Railroad Company (Northern Division), Maysville, Kentucky. He refers to an earlier report to an investor and details the current cost of construction work on the railroad, including his careful pricing of materials and rolling stock. In particular, he sets out the prices for a contract to construct 33 miles of track to Carlisle, Kentucky.
