Finding aid and typescripts (Click on "Additional Files" below) for Manuscripts Small Collection 3493. Letters, 28 March and 27 April 1919, of Arthur Milem to his future wife Bendola White in Covington, Kentucky. Writing from Verdun, France, where he is serving with the American Expeditionary Force, he reports on the weather, letters received from family and friends, and his uneventful military life. Noting that his is now the oldest company left at Verdun, he expresses hope that orders will arrive soon allowing them to embark for “the good old U.S.A.” Hearing that Bendola and his sister are planning a reception …

Querying the Past: LGBTQ Maine Oral History Project Collection
Bobbi Keppel is an 87-year old bisexual activist. Her father was a civil rights activist and union organizer; in part because of this, she felt she was a born “disruptor.” As a child, Bobbi Keppel was ill and struggled with being a “sickly kid.” She later married and had two children. During her marriage, she came out as bisexual with the support of her husband. She is a contributor to the classic anthology “By Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out” (edited by Loraine Hutchins and Lani Ka'ahumanu). A Means To An End: Adding Value To The Preference Debate, Laura Miller
Theses
Helping disadvantaged people involves trusting them to make the best possible choices. Under scrutiny, however, it seems that the disadvantaged often fail to make the best choices for themselves. In this paper, I oppose both the traditional philosophical view that some choices of the disadvantaged are deformed or adaptive, and the view of preference utilitarians, who favor aiming to satisfy all preferences.
My rejection of the traditional views of preference is founded on my identification of two distinct kinds of preferences and their relationship to each other: means preferences and end preferences. Means preferences are those choices that are made …

This thesis aims to provide an extensive look at the history of collecting film within the home, starting from pre-cinematic optical toys to today's use of streaming platforms. There is an extensive knowledge gap in the history of film collecting. Much of the information is anecdotal and providing an extensive background will close this gap. Contrasting the different technologies in the home allows for people to see how film collecting practices have evolved. Streaming is currently a new phenomena that has taken over the industry and changed the structure of the home library. Rather than aid the home library, this …

Propertius 3.3’S Summary Of Ennius’S Annales, Thomas J.B. Cole

In 3.3, Propertius summarizes the third triad of Ennius’s Annales in such a way as to show that unconventional military tactics, such as deceptive strategies, result in success. Propertius uses this summary to strengthen the elegy– epic antithesis prevalent in the first five poems of Book 3, aligning unconventional military tactics with “a new path” (nova . . . semita) (3.3.26) toward poetic success in elegy, which Propertius also portrays with deceptive themes.
