Center City is home to a vast majority of overworked 30 year old's with limited social lives and high stress levels which causes mental depletion and higher anxiety. Through researching issues within central Philadelphia we decided we need to improve the health and overall well-being of the community members. In doing this we found that within the Center City, 56.3% of the population are made up of single adults, with the majority living alone.

They also have 65.8% of the population working in white collar jobs. These situations consist of long working hours which decrease the percentage in social interaction. This can also lead to other issues such as mental health, where stress levels are high.

Philosophy Faculty Articles and Research

We present a theory of honor violence as a form of costly signaling. Two types of honor violence are identified: revenge and purification. Both types are amenable to a signaling analysis whereby the violent behavior is a signal that can be used by out-groups to draw inferences about the nature of the signaling group, thereby helping to solve perennial problems of social cooperation: deterrence and assurance. The analysis shows that apparently gratuitous acts of violence can be part of a system of norms that are Pareto superior to alternatives without such signals. The paper argues that Frege’s primary foundational purpose concerning arithmetic was neither that of making natural numbers logical objects, nor that of making arithmetic a part of logic, but rather that of assigning to it an appropriate place in the architectonics of mathematics and knowledge, by immersing it in a theory of numbers of concepts and making truths about natural numbers, and/or knowledge of them transparent to reason without the medium of senses and intuition.

Thank you for funding our grant request, which enabled five flute majors to travel to Paris, France, during the summer of 2016. We were awarded a total of $16,000. Each student’s full tuition of $1600 was covered, as well as full housing costs of $600/student for two weeks. Each student was given help covering her plane ticket to Paris with the remaining grant money.

The Qualitative Report

This study focuses on the ways that people interact around contemporary craft objects. The ambiguous quality of these objects holds people’s attention and inhibits autobiographical narratives. The study focused on the relationship between the perceptual language used by participants and the ways in which they interacted with the objects. The analytical approach taken here begins with close observation and careful description of single cases and working towards valid generalisations rather than imposing an interpretation from the outset by explicitly positing a hypothesis.
