Between Continuity And Change: Early Twentieth-Century German-Language Crime And Detective Novels And The ‘Familienkrimi’, Julia Karolle-Berg

German-language crime and detective novels of the 1920s and 1930s have recently enjoyed scholarly attention, yet the first decade of the century remains relatively unresearched. This study explores a popular subgenre of the ‘Kriminalroman’ from this crucial period: novels that featured a criminal investigation in which central characters are part of an extended family, referred to here as ‘Familienkrimis’. In them, the resolution of the crime requires addressing familial conflicts, which then enables the (re-)union of a romantic couple. Computers have been extremely useful in humanity’s quest for knowledge, performing calculations and other strenuous tasks in seconds. For a computer to perform the tasks, it requires a specific set of instructions, or code, to tell it what to do. These series of commands and instructions are strict, in that any syntactic error results in faulty, or zero functionality. Human language is very much unlike that of a computer, in that it can be grammatically incorrect, irregular, or even incomplete, yet another human may still get the point and understand the information being exchanged. IPHS 300: AI for Humanity

An algorithm that can learn an optimal policy to execute trade profitable is any market participant’s dream. In the project, we propose an algorithm that does just that: a Deep Reinforcement Learning trading algorithm. We design our algorithm by tuning the reward function to our specified constraints, taking into account unrealized Profits and Losses (PnL), Sharpe ratio, profits, and transaction costs. Additionally, we use a short 5-month moving average replay memory in order to ensure our algorithm is basing its decision on the most pertinent information. We combine the aforementioned concepts to make a theoretical Deep Reinforcement Learning trading algorithm.

This article will contribute to the current debate about eugenics through an analysis of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “The Birthmark.” This will concern the story’s theme and character development, as well the period in which it was written. Of particular interest will be main character’s fixation on the correction of disability in the seemingly isolated world in which he lives. Also relevant is the research of Napier and Garland-Thomson and the literature on disabilities.

Women leaders have become a modern topic of discussion throughout the media and research, with the notion that women have a voice and desire fair treatment. The purpose of the study was to investigate women leaders from diverse career backgrounds and discover their points of view on empowerment in order to determine similarities and differences among these women. The objective in the research was for women leaders to share their own definition of empowerment in regard to leadership and to articulate ways they inspire others.
