Sai Ho Ma
Lingnan Theses
Concord’S Wayside: Home Of What?, Olivia Ortman
Concord’S Wayside: Home Of What?, Olivia Ortman
The Gettysburg Compiler: On the Front Lines of History
This summer, I have had the privilege of interning at Minute Man NHP in Concord, Massachusetts. My primary station here is the Wayside: Home of Authors. Right about now, you might be wondering what the Wayside is. That’s alright, I didn’t know what the house was until just this summer. The Wayside was the home of Louisa May Alcott, Nathanial Hawthorne, and Harriet Lothrop (or Margaret Sydney) – all prominent authors in the 19th century. This house also stood witness to the “shot heard round the world” and provided brief shelter to a fugitive slave. This house is a gold …

An Artist As Soldier: Seeking Refuge In Love And Art, Barbara S. Heisler
An Artist As Soldier: Seeking Refuge In Love And Art, Barbara S. Heisler
Gettysburg College Faculty Books
At the center of this book are the World War II letters (Feldpostbriefe) of a German artist and art teacher to his wife. While Bernhard Epple’s letters to his wife, Gudrun, address many of the topics usually found in war letters (food, lodging conditions, the weather, problems with the mail service, requests for favors from home), they are unusual in two respects. Each letter is lovingly decorated with a drawing and the letters make few references to the war itself. In addition to many personal communications and expressions of love for his wife and children, Epple writes about …
The Shifting Ecumenical Landscape At The 2017 Reformation Centenary, Susan K. Wood
The Shifting Ecumenical Landscape At The 2017 Reformation Centenary, Susan K. Wood
Theology Faculty Research and Publications
The 2017 Reformation Centenary is the first commemoration to take place during the ecumenical age and marks fifty years of Lutheran–Roman Catholic dialogue. The current ecumenical landscape is a tale of two cities, one of ecclesial fragmentation that exists simultaneously with new relationships of communion and ecumenical progress. The way forward requires the discernment of deeper commonalities among ecclesial tradition, a correlation of doctrines, a “pastoral ecumenism,” and a hierarchy of virtues in addition to a hierarchy of truths.

Monuments Ought To Be Considered Case By Case, Michael J. Birkner
Monuments Ought To Be Considered Case By Case, Michael J. Birkner
History Faculty Publications
In a press conference last week President Donald Trump made this contribution to the escalating debate about monuments and memorials to American heroes who, by today’s reckoning, failed a moral test.
The statue debate is inherently emotional and when it comes to keeping certain statues up or pulling them down, it riles people up —including Donald Trump. However, it is important to separate President Trump’s intemperate and often factually inaccurate remarks at Tuesday’s press conference from the statue controversy as it is currently playing out. The Role Of Spirituality Among Schizophrenia Patients: An Integrated Literature Review, Sarah Bieber
The Role Of Spirituality Among Schizophrenia Patients: An Integrated Literature Review, Sarah Bieber
Grace Peterson Nursing Research Colloquium
Abstract
Background: Over the past 30 years, the field of psychology has evolved to become more receptive towards spirituality as an influential concept in the recovery of many mental health illnesses. The role of spirituality as it relates to recovery for patients living with schizophrenia, however, has not been effectively explored. In order to induce a spiritual sense, one must have an ability to think and reflect abstractly; however, this requirement conflicts with the schizophrenic mind’s preference for concrete thinking. It is questionable whether patients with schizophrenia regard the role of spirituality as it relates to their recovery in the …
