This paper attempts to provide an overview of the effect immigrants had on the food culture of America from 1880-1960. French, German, Italian, Jewish, as well as Chinese immigrants, to name only a few, had a direct impact on formulating the unique and diverse American cuisine we enjoy today.

There are many ways of creating understanding; art is one of them. When there are misunderstandings created through a combination of art and oronyms, however, that is where the real fun begins. Oronyms are similar to homonyms however, instead of the same word being spelled in different ways, oronyms are usually composed of multiple words used together that cause confusion in the brain.[1]

An example would be the phrase, “Have you seen me at my darkest,” being misconstrued as, “Have you seen me in my carcass.” This creates an oronym which could be illustrated as two individuals, one envisioning …

Sketches of a Life is a work for a small chamber ensemble and depicts small sections of an unidentified person's life. It is scored for 13 instruments and runs eight minutes in length. The piece itself is supplementary to this project, which is largely a descriptive and theoretical analysis of the work. The analysis and score are submitted as PDFs. Louden Hugely: The Piano Music Of Percy Grainger, Jackson Carruthers

Percy Aldridge Grainger (1882-1961) was an Australian pianist and composer. While highly esteemed during his lifetime, Grainger's music has largely fallen into neglect outside the world of the wind band. However, Grainger left a vast quantity of highly idiomatic and meritorious piano music which deserves greater acceptance. To this end, this paper makes a survey of Grainger's output for piano, to show the merit of his music and prove that it remains relevant even today.

As a graphic designer, understanding the way a computer displays type and image is extremely beneficial. Before going into college, my knowledge of how a line of ones and zeros translates to a full color, high definition screen of pixels was abstract at best. This project serves to explore and demonstrate the meaning and process of LED screen resolution through a more playful and tangible lens of LEGO® bricks.

In today’s day and age, people are consumed by technology. We tend to use phone and email rather than meeting up in person to share the experiences in our lives. It’s easier, more convenient, and quicker, but in-person interaction is a critical key in keeping relationships alive. Body language, tone of voice, and emotional cues are absent or easily taken out of context when using technology to communicate. The use of electronics takes away human presence.

This study focuses on Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse and the history and organization of the New England Youth Ensemble (NEYE). Born in Lacombe, Canada in 1922, Virginia-Gene Rittenhouse was a violinist, pianist, composer, and notable music educator in the Seventh-day Adventist Church who established the New England Youth Ensemble in 1969. The ensemble has toured internationally since the early 1970s and it is the resident orchestra at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland. The youth orchestra has played numerous times under the baton of John Rutter and has performed frequently in Carnegie Hall under the auspices of MidAmerica Productions. The author …

The Grounding Of Effective Aristotelian Law, Kyra Kinnaman

This paper aims to contribute meaningfully to Aristotelian scholarship by articulating the grounding of effective law. The grounding of law is the reason for which law’s efficacy can be explained. Two popular contenders for this explanation are natural law theory and legal positivism; however, this paper will build off the work of Donald Schroeder to show that neither theory is a tenable explanation for the grounding of Aristotelian law. Although Schroeder rejects natural law and positivism as appropriate interpretations of Aristotle, he fails to articulate what ultimately is the grounding of efficacious law.
