This study analyzed the scholarly discussions surrounding the topic of animal testing for vaccine potency and safety in humans. The primary stakeholders in this discussion are the scientists, medical professionals, and researchers who are involved in animal models and alternative testing methods, specifically related to vaccine development. The debate among these professionals regarding alternative methods, which encompasses any testing approach that does not involve animals, has been analyzed. This project looks at the argument from a historical perspective, which provides background context for the current debate and an understanding of how the current arguments originated. Adaptations of works have the potential to bring their subject matter to a new audience. This thesis explores the adaptation of Russian fairy tales into novels by authors Orson Scott Card and Joy Preble by looking at how they present Russian fairy tales, folkloric figures, and fairy tale structure to an American audience.

This thesis investigates D.H. Lawrence’s idea of the “great background” in the context of Thomas Hardy’s Jude the Obscure and how it reappears in a transformed way in Lawrence’s novels Sons and Lovers, The Rainbow, and Women in Love. Through examining the perverse effects of modernism on these novels’ characters, this thesis argues that the “great background” is something that gradually moves inward––from the old, traditional “State” to an internal, inscrutable yet attainable reality.

Disarming discomfort through irony, material, and absurdity is at the center of my practice. I chose to describe my efforts of coping through installation instead of objects because I desire to create an immersive experience for viewers. Using a broadly recognized metaphor as weather allows me to reveal the silent yet ubiquitous nature that so many who suffer from anxiety and depression try to conceal. Depression often coexists with anxiety and both share the ability to alter one's perception of reality. A Teacher's Experience In Improvisational Music Therapy With Her Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Phenomenological Inquiry, Inbar A. Kaplan

The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the lived experience of a teacher who participated in one 30-minute Improvisational Music Therapy (IMT) session with her students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants included a teacher who has never participated in music therapy sessions with her students, as well as four of her students, ages 12-17, with a primary diagnosis of ASD, and each of their paraprofessionals. Data were collected and thematically analyzed based on transcriptions of the interview with the teacher and videotaped music and verbal interactions in the session. The purpose of this survey study was to explore professional burnout in music therapists and factors that may increase the likelihood of experiencing it. The Maslach Burnout Inventory – Human Services Survey (1981) and researcher-developed questions were used to test for burnout and variables among board-certified music therapists, such as demographics, longevity, and the music therapists’ ideologies. The list of board-certified music therapists from 2017 was randomized and the survey was distributed to 1635 potential participants. Out of the 200 responses that were received, 199 agreed to participate in this study. On average, participants scored an average degree of burnout …

Drawing on the testimonial character of the memory of Spanish exile of 1939, this project contributes to the study of cultural memory, in dialogue with other scholars who examine memory in contemporary works. It focuses on the intersection of exile and memory, and demonstrates that cultural memory means a connection between collective and individual memories. A Study Of The Determinants Influencing The Legislative Success Of A Government-Proposed Bill In Korea, Byung Jun Ahn

As there is a widespread perception of legislative gridlock and subsequent failure in addressing national problems in Korea, this study examines what factors influence the legislative success and legislative time of a government-proposed bill in Korea. This study uses government-proposed bills from 1988 to 2016 to estimate the effect of explanatory variables such as divided government, the year of presidential term (one to five year), the presidential approval rate, the unemployment rate, filibusters, jurisdictional area of a bill, and the ratio of members’ bills to government-proposed bills.

Unlike other non-profits, however, the political, social, and economic environment is constantly changing in developing countries like Afghanistan. This study examines the relationship between socioeconomic factors and voter turnout in South Korea. In particular, the determinants of the turnout in the 2012 and 2017 presidential elections in the Republic of Korea are analyzed by using the aggregated data in terms of municipal-level divisions. The findings partially support previous studies. The education level and the percentage of primary industry workers in the district have a significantly positive impact on turnout. Holding the other variables constant, as the proportion of the population over higher education in the district increases, voter turnout grows. Likewise, as the ratio of primary industry workers …

In this article, Carter tells the weaving tale of the globalization of art and the interplay between eastern and western contemporary art. Carter sketches out the history of contemporary art in China with a keen eye towards the interplay between Chinese artists and the various western influences over time, such as the 16th century Jesuit artists, Impressionism, Cubism, Fauvism, and Dada to name a few. This history is marked by a ubiquitous tension as Chinese artists incorporated western innovations into their work, while also maintaining the poetic and literary foundation of Chinese art.
