Cillian Murphy and Mary Redmond set up Murphy Blacks Restaurant in 2004. We had run a very successful bar for the previous 5 years and had built a good reputation for our bar food. When the building next door came up for sale, we jumped at the opportunity to buy it and converted it into a 42 seat restaurant. Cillian, an ex fishing skipper who uses his fishing connections to ensure the freshest fish possible, is in charge of front of house and Mary, a graduate of Cathal Brugha St. and the fourth generation of her family involved in the …

Governmentality/Animacy/Mythology: A Biopolitical And Rhetorical Mosaic Of Hiv Stigma In A Time Of Prep-Aration, Brendan Geoffrey Aaron Hughes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since 1981, roughly 35 million people have died from the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), the end stages of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), and an estimated 39 million are living with HIV today. While various factors such as poverty, lack of education, and poor access to treatment and healthcare compound the epidemic across the world, the endemic in the industrialized west faces specific communication-based challenges to slowing the spread of HIV. Now classified as a "chronic manageable condition", an HIV diagnosis is no longer the death sentence of the early outbreak in the 1980's. A major factor in the …

Reimagining Nicaragua’S Volcanto Tradition Through The Music Of Perrozompopo, Megan Thornton
Reimagining Nicaragua’S Volcanto Tradition Through The Music Of Perrozompopo, Megan Thornton
2017 Faculty Bibliography
Volcanto music is a specific label for Nicaraguan testimonial music, coined after the 1979 left-wing triumph of the Frente Sandinista de Liberación Nacional (FSLN, or Sandinistas). This protest music, with its roots in the Latin American Nueva Canción genre, has evolved over the years from folkloric and rural music with socially committed lyrics to one with hybrid sounds and global influences. Ramón Mejía, better known as Perrozompopo, is one of Nicaragua’s most celebrated contemporary singer-songwriters who has continued the volcanto tradition with his hybrid compilations. As the nephew of Carlos Mejía Godoy, Nicaragua’s most influential composer of volcanto music, Perrozompopo …

Poetic Science: Wonder And The Seas Of Cognition In Bacon And Pericles, Jean Feerick
2017 Faculty Bibliography
This book is about the complex ways in which science and literature are mutually-informing and mutually-sustaining. It does not cast the literary and the scientific as distinct, but rather as productively in-distinct cultural practices: for the two dozen new essays collected here, the presiding concern is no longer to ask how literary writers react to scientific writers, but rather to study how literary and scientific practices are imbricated. These specially-commissioned essays from top scholars in the area range across vast territories and produce seemingly unlikely unions: between physics and rhetoric, math and Milton, Boyle and the Bible, plague and plays, …
Shakespeare And Classical Cosmology, Jean Feerick
Shakespeare And Classical Cosmology, Jean Feerick
2017 Faculty Bibliography
In this wide-ranging and ambitiously conceived Research Companion, contributors explore Shakespeare’s relationship to the classic in two broad senses. The essays analyze Shakespeare’s specific debts to classical works and weigh his classicism’s likeness and unlikeness to that of others in his time; they also evaluate the effects of that classical influence to assess the extent to which it is connected with whatever qualities still make Shakespeare, himself, a classic (arguably the classic) of modern world literature and drama. The first sense of the classic which the volume addresses is the classical culture of Latin and Greek reading, translation, and imitation. …

A Dream, A Rock, And A Pillar Of Fire, Adam S. Miller
A Dream, A Rock, And A Pillar Of Fire, Adam S. Miller
Maxwell Institute Publications
The first chapter of 1 Nephi may be the most read in all of Mormon scripture. But beyond its veneer of familiarity, its substance remains shadowed by a host of contextual and theological questions. The papers collected in this volume offer theological readings that draw on careful examinations of 1 Nephi 1’s structure and literary details to explore questions about Lehi’s world, the nature of revelation, the problem of suffering, and the promised Messiah.
