This manuscript is a collection of musical compositions written while I was a graduate student at the University of New Mexico. My portfolio contains composition synopses, musical scores and spectrograms and audio recordings. The compositions featured in the portfolio are Song of the Bisti, an improvised film score for electric cello and electronics; Four New Mexico Landscapes, for chamber ensemble; Phonemes, for alto saxophone and five string cello; and Requiem for an Ancient Forest, for wind symphony.

"Sed Neque Silentio Pretereundum": An Analysis Of The Miracles Of Saint William Of Norwich, Sarah Rose Edwards Obenauf

William of Norwich was born around 1132, and, according to his biographer Thomas of Monmouth, he was killed by Jews during Easter week of 1144. Consequently, whenever William is mentioned in modern scholarship, it is almost always in relation to Jewish ritual murder and the blood libel legend. To date, no scholarship has systematically categorized or analyzed the miracles and visions contained in The Life and Passion of William of Norwich nor discussed what these stories suggest about the pilgrims who visited his tomb. "I Heard The Same Thing Once Before": Intertextuality In Selected Works Of Evelyn Waugh, Janelle Lynn Ortega

Through the lens of structural intertextuality, this dissertation reveals the significance of literary allusion in some of Evelyn Waughs works. It investigates intertextual significance and intent that has, heretofore, been largely bypassed. This study tracks Waugh's intertextual instances from his earliest novels through his short stories to one of his final works. Waugh's intertextuality unearths a hope for not only literary culture but also the world at large. A study of Waugh's intertextuality uncovers an overarching theme of hope rooted in literary culture.
