A volunteer to the Army as a helicopter pilot, Dan Peters gives an account of when he served in the Vietnam War in 1970. Beginning in California, Peters enlisted and trained at Fort Polk, Fort Walters, Fort Rucker, Fort Hunter, and left to Vietnam from Travis Air Force Base. Peters gives a background of the political climate around the Vietnam War and his job on a hunter-killer team as a Cobra pilot.

“The Indians Gaping Before Us”: Anxieties Of Consumption In Mary White Rowlandson’S Sovereignty And Goodness Of God, Samantha Woodington

Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)

This paper traces the theme of consumption throughout Mary White Rowlandson’s captivity narrative The Sovereignty and Goodness of God. From Rowlandson’s fear of actual cannibalism at the outset of the work, her obsession with recording the strange foods she consumes, her status as a consumer of Algonquin culture, and lastly, the consumption of the novel by both contemporary and modern readers alike, consumption becomes the leitmotif of the text. A closer analysis elucidates that the fear of consumption truly belies a fear of colonialism and the cultural exchanges taking place at the frontier.

As my four years at university are ending, I begin to critically think about my choice of study and ask, “did I make the right decision?” I am choosing to not go into my field which I spent the last four years studying, devoting my time to, and learning about and instead pursue my new-found passion for leadership. This paper is an analysis of chronotopes in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt that reveals how the procedurality of video games might suggest a refined heteroglossic form. Synthesizing contemporary american philosopher Ian Bogost’s concept of procedural rhetoric with the materialist linguistic theory of Mikhail Bakhtin, this ultimately hypertextual and interactive article reflects on language as Bakhtin once did: as "agent and agency” (MPL 146). This study seeks to investigate a connection between the political thought of Machiavelli and the philosophy prevalent in the work of Girolamo Savonarola. In this consideration, it will be necessary to examine the works of Savonarola. After considering Savonarola, the study focuses on Machiavelli and apparent similarities between the two men’s writings. In addition to cross-referencing Machiavelli and Savonarola, it is necessary to cross-reference the work of Machiavelli with other humanist sources to determine whether or not Machiavelli’s alternative perspectives of human nature can be synthesized into the larger context of the scholarship of his day.
