José Efraín Ríos Montt: A Guatemalan Nightmare, Ryan Melson

Theses and Dissertations

In Guatemala, dictator Efrain Rios Montt's seventeen month regime, from 1982 to 1983, had countless human rights violations. After being deposed from leadership in 1983, Rios Montt's supporters have displayed enduring loyalty to him. As a result of this, Rios Montt's beliefs and desires have held considerable political and social wealth in Guatemala's political and social spheres. Rios Montt's political and social power in Guatemala has given him impunity within the justice system. The Guatemalan justice system has created a fractured state, and paved the way for more violence.

Refracted through a psychoanalytic lens and a deeply caring heart, Stearns’ description of her classroom practices offers a canny account of all that she must give up in order to see through and past her students’ resistance. In a surprising turn of events she learns to join with her students as they become curious …

The Gettysburg Compiler: On the Front Lines of History

About seven months ago, I was asked during an interview for my current internship what I thought the National Park Service could do to gain the interest of more millennials. This question was posed to me in light of the fact that I am a member of the millennial generation. And what was my incredibly insightful answer, you may ask? “I don’t know.” There were some rambling and incoherent sentences before I finally delivered that bombshell of a response, but that was my final answer, much to my embarrassment. Now that I am almost a month into my second National …
