Phineas And Ferb: The Klimpaloon Ultimatum
Children's Book and Media Review
In “The Klimpaloon Ultimatum”, Phineas and Ferb have to help the band Love Händel compete in the 24 Hour Danville Music Awards by finding Klimpaloon (a magical vintage bathing suit that lives in the Himalayas) because they cannot perform their song about him if Klimpaloon is not real. Phineas, Ferb, and their friends go to the Himalayas to find Klimpaloon and bring him to the award show, but first they will have to rescue him from someone who wants to use him for business purposes. Cinderella
Children's Book and Media Review
Ella, the daughter of a successful merchant and his wife, is taught from a young age to "have courage and be kind," and this will bring magic into her life. Years after his wife’s death, Ella's father remarries Lady Tremaine, who has two daughters of her own. When Ella's father dies unexpectedly while traveling, Lady Tremaine cruelly forces Ella to take over all the household chores and begins to call her Cinderella. Might Insects Experience Pain?, Robert W. Elwood
Might Insects Experience Pain?, Robert W. Elwood
Animal Sentience
The aim of this commentary is to expand the discussion about subjective experience to other arthropods, notably crustaceans. Various species of crustaceans show responses consistent with their feeling pain. Hermit crabs also show prolonged investigation of new shells. They clearly attend to and integrate information from a wide variety of sources that enable them to evaluate the quality of the new shell relative to their current shell. These observations too are consistent with their having subjective experience.
The Transatlantic Triangle Of Artistic Circulation, Béatrice Joyeux-Prunel, Catherine Dossin
The Transatlantic Triangle Of Artistic Circulation, Béatrice Joyeux-Prunel, Catherine Dossin
Artl@s Bulletin
The international circulation of art has today become a rapidly expanding field of study, yet transcontinental circulations have thus far received less attention. In much the same way, a great deal of research has been conducted into bilateral artistic and cultural exchanges, yet scholarship around triangular systems is still somewhat lacking. This latter term refers to instances in which artistic circulation – whether in the form of artworks, artists, aesthetics or styles – involves at least three cultural reference points, and wherein effects of transformation, adaptation and readaptation are all the more complex. Despite the focus on bilateral exchanges, even …

Presidential Politics And The Black Vote, Part 1 Of 3, Preston Love Jr.
Presidential Politics And The Black Vote, Part 1 Of 3, Preston Love Jr.
Black Studies Faculty Publications
With the advent of the 2016 Presidential contest, I reflect on the impact and importance of the black Vote during presidential elections. There have been significant events that must be acknowledged prior to any discussion of the presidential black vote. We must establish the importance of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. We must be reminded of the importance of the civil rights struggle and movement culminating in the 1964 Civil Rights Act and the events of Selma. These historic events laid the ground work for the explosion of black registration and voting.
What I’M Reading: Harper Lee’S 2 Novels, Jerome A. Gilbert
What I’M Reading: Harper Lee’S 2 Novels, Jerome A. Gilbert
President's Research and Writings
Last fall, shortly after it was published, I read Harper Lee’s Go Set a Watchman, and this summer I reread her classic To Kill a Mockingbird. The controversy around Watchman intrigued me. I saw the differences in the books mainly as the change between the perspectives of the young Scout and the adult Scout (aka Jean Louise). Unlike some, I saw the Watchman as an honest book reflecting the complicated reality of white America in the Jim Crow era.
