Religious Accommodations For Sabbatarian Observance Among Library Staff, Paul A. Hartog

Over the last twenty-five years, litigation related to religious discrimination in the workplace has been on the rise. One of the tension points has been the religious practice of Sabbath keeping, leading to employment scheduling conflicts. Title VII and its subsequent amendments require that employers seek “reasonable accommodations” for Sabbatarian observance. Such adjustments should not cause “undue hardship” to the employer, who is required to make a “good faith effort” at accommodation. This article discusses creative alternatives that managers of public libraries and nonsectarian academic libraries may implement when accommodating Seventh-Day Adventist and similar Sabbatarian staff members.

In this collection, I explore the process of writing to heal from trauma. In exploring the rhetorical landscape of trauma writing, I offer a new framework for understanding how those who experience a traumatic event may use the process of writing creatively to engage in a process of healing. I argue that through the creation of art, individuals may take ownership of their experiences and memories, thus exerting the agency over the experience that was lost as the result of trauma. The following study of AfroReggae and Grupo Cultural Afro Reggae (GCAR) calls attention to Brazilian presence and community organizing in the field of Hip Hop studies with a long memory framework: placing AfroReggae and GCAR in a long history of Africana resistance through music in Latin America. !990s GCAR group arises when reggae and Hip Hop music had become new global forms of solidarity among urban marginalized youths worldwide, making use of old and new strategies of social healing (Fernandes 2011). Finding Aids

The collection consists of the papers of Helen Williams Coxon. Materials date from 1765, bulk 1921-1989, and include correspondence, clippings, printed material, photographs and writings pertaining to Coxon's involvement with the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonists; her service with Georgia's Pardons and Paroles Board, the Georgia House of Representatives, and the Georgia Senate; and as editor and publisher of the Ludowici News (Ludowici, Long County, Georgia). Eighteenth and nineteenth-century materials included in the collection were collected by Coxon and pertain to family history.
