Transforming Narratives Through “Live”: A Pastoral Model Of Care For Women In Sex Work, Nkiruka Okafor Ihm
Transforming Narratives Through “Live”: A Pastoral Model Of Care For Women In Sex Work, Nkiruka Okafor Ihm
Doctor of Philosophy Theses
This work, “Transforming Narratives Through “Live”: A Pastoral Model of Care for Women in Sex Work,” seeks to provide the Church with a pastoral response from the narratives of the women doing sex work as streetwalkers in Nigeria. The work uses the four steps of practical theological model of Rick Osmer to describe, interpret, theologize, and strategize on pastoral care of women in sex work. The literature review, both descriptive and interpretive, examines the perception of agency as exercised by the women in sex work through the work of scholars, writings by women in sex industry, the different pastoral models …

A Theological Playground: Christian Summer Camp In Theological Perspective, Jacob Sorenson
Doctor of Philosophy Theses
Christian camping ministry is a vibrant and well-established form of ministry in the church, but it has received shockingly little scholarly attention. Supporters and detractors alike rely on anecdotal evidence to support their claims. Many in the academic community have dismissed camp as theologically shallow or mere fun and games, while others have praised it as a form of ministry proven to facilitate life-changing experiences. Much of the confusion comes from conflating very different models of camping ministry, though most is the result of a simple dearth of scholarly research.
This project takes a close look at the rich history …

John Mcgahern : His Time And His Places, Eamon Maher, Paul Butler
Articles
This article arose out of a collaboration between the two authors, Eamon Maher, a McGahern “expert,” and Paul Butler, a photographer who moved to Leitrim in the 1990s and who has been accumulating a pictorial narrative of McGahern’s home county ever since. As part of the Red Rua book festival in 2013, the authors decided to do an illustrated talk on McGahern’s work that would go alongside Paul’s exhibition, Still, which is a combination of images and text revolving around the writer’s native county.

What follows is a discussion on the process and limitations of Theology, the process and limitations of Science, and how they relate to our pursuit of God’s Truth. The particular “case study” that I choose to explore, for better or worse, is the way in which mystery, ambiguity, and paradox work in both Theology and Science.

Excellence & Equity calls for partnerships between museums and schools that will better utilize the strengths of both institutions to encourage learning and fulfill the social calling of museums (American Association of Museums [AAM], 1992). Meanwhile educators are called to meet 21st century learners head-on using “constructivist, project enhanced, collaborative, and authentic curricula” (King, 1998, p.1). With these principles in mind, the museum-school partnership becomes a viable remedy to meeting this social obligation of museums while affording schools opportunities to better engage new learners. Through the lens of a particular growing museum-school partnership between the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum and Staten Island …

"Gastronomy is an important part of our culture. The way we eat says a lot about who we are, what culture has shaped us, and the choices we have made concerning our food and the way we eat it. Gastronomy is surrounded by many rituals, and we often perform the way we eat. Besides, since we need to eat every day, we are engaged in rituals and performative acts related to gastronomy every day."

This paper explores the circumstances under which U.S. presidents have invoked the idea of American exceptionalism in major speeches to the nation and how the invocation of this concept has culminated during the Obama presidency. To explore these dynamics, we conducted a content analysis of all major domestic presidential addresses since the end of World War II. We find that U.S. presidents have become increasingly likely to invoke American exceptionalism, particularly after the end of the Cold War, and that in times of national crises, American exceptionalism becomes most pronounced in U.S. presidential discourse. Moreover, we demonstrate the overwhelming propensity …

We at COAL think that Appalachian culture has been marginalized by American urban centers and being an Appalachian American comes with many negative stereotypes. This is especially felt right here in the Franklinton neighborhood of Columbus, Ohio. We want to make an impact in the community in a way that lessens stereotypes towards Appalachian Americans and help the city of Columbus be more inclusive towards Appalachian culture.
We propose to do this by organizing an Appalachian cultural festival that will both address the specific needs of Franklinton and celebrate its Appalachian roots. The specific issues we wish to address include …
