La Inevitable Pareja: Paralelismo Y Feminidad Literaria En El Cine Español De La Democracia, Juan Senís Fernández
Teatro: Revista de Estudios Escénicos / A Journal of Theater Studies

A Conducting Student's Guide To The Solving And Execution Of Major Gestural Issues In Beethoven's First Eight Symphonies, Nathanael Thomas Lambert
A Conducting Student's Guide To The Solving And Execution Of Major Gestural Issues In Beethoven's First Eight Symphonies, Nathanael Thomas Lambert
Dissertations
This work is a reference guide for the solving of major conducting gestural issues in Beethoven’s first eight symphonies. The most common major gestural issues encountered in conducting Beethoven’s symphonies include tempo modulations, fermati, hypermetric conducting, and cueing in rapid succession. The methods and criteria used for solving each of these issues are addressed in separate chapters devoted to each of these major gestural issues. A following chapter is devoted to the solving of less complicated issues including starting movements, gradual tempo changes, nonmodulatory sudden tempo changes, and showing dynamics and sforzandi.
Each symphony is given its own chapter where …
The Application Of Contemporary Double Bass Left Hand Techniques Applied In The Orchestra Repertoire, Eric Hilgenstieler
The Application Of Contemporary Double Bass Left Hand Techniques Applied In The Orchestra Repertoire, Eric Hilgenstieler
Dissertations
The uses of contemporary left hand techniques are related to solo playing in many ways. In fact, most of these techniques were arguably developed for this kind of repertoire. Generally the original solo repertoire is idiomatic for the double bass. The same cannot be said for the orchestral repertoire, which presents many technical problems too difficult to solve using the traditional technique. Historically, the double bass passed through several transformations in its shape, structure, and tuning system. Only in the late 19th century did the instrument begin to have its own standard pedagogy and experiments with the tuning system diminished. …
“That’S The Way I’Ve Always Learned”: The Transmission Of Traditional Music In Higher Education, Alexandra Frank
“That’S The Way I’Ve Always Learned”: The Transmission Of Traditional Music In Higher Education, Alexandra Frank
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This research examines the establishment of degree programs in traditional music in institutions of higher education. It defines traditional music and discusses the history of traditional and folk music programs at universities and conservatories in the United States, Finland, Scotland, and England. The institutionalization of American traditional music is compared to the institutionalization of jazz music in the United States. This thesis focuses on the Bluegrass, Old- Time, and Country Music Studies program at East Tennessee State University and features original ethnographic interviews with lecturers from the program. Two similar programs in Tennessee and Kentucky are also discussed. Some of …
Israel, Iran, And The United States: A Precarious Alliance, Roy J. Ellsworth
Israel, Iran, And The United States: A Precarious Alliance, Roy J. Ellsworth
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this work is to examine the relationship between Iran and Israel after Israel became a state in 1948 following the United Nations (UN) Partition Plan for Palestine in 1947, which would lead to independent Arab and Jewish states. The Palestinians and their Arab neighbors rejected the UN Partition Plan and attacked Israel but were defeated by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Israel and Iran (not an Arab country) quickly became best friends and trading partners, since their Arab neighbors were hostile to both countries. This new partnership included a joint pipeline to transport oil across Israel and …
All The King's Horses, Christopher Caruso
All The King's Horses, Christopher Caruso
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
All The King’s Horses juxtaposes the struggle of artistic creation alongside the trauma of 9/11. This collection of poetry presents the failure of language and art to define the boundaries of anxiety’s origins. Aware of these limitations the “I” in this poem struggles to find a reprieve in defining something that cannot be defined.
A Leatherneck In Congress: Melvin Maas's Fight For A Modern Marine Corps Reserve, Timothy A. Guill
A Leatherneck In Congress: Melvin Maas's Fight For A Modern Marine Corps Reserve, Timothy A. Guill
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Melvin J. Maas was a Marine Corps officer, combat pilot, and member of Congress. Maas’s unique view of American defense in the Interwar Period led him to promote the modernization the Navy and Marine Corps Reserve, which resulted in the formation of a well trained pool of semi-professional personnel prior to the outbreak of the Second World War. This study first examines the evolution of the formation of the reserve system of the American Armed Forces during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, in order to understand the state of the Marine Corps Reserve that Maas joined in 1925. …
Narrating Gender: A Feminist Approach To The Narratives Of The Transgender Experience, Jamie K. Lange
Narrating Gender: A Feminist Approach To The Narratives Of The Transgender Experience, Jamie K. Lange
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
Gender and identity are complex and often ubiquitous in nature. This is a study about gender and identity and the ways in which they manifest through the narratives of five transgender individuals, who all transitioned after the age of 45, who now live as women. This study about the transgender experience adds a significant and important perspective on gender, identity, identification, and the relationship between gender and identity. The most important conclusions are the lengths to which these people go to support gender social constructs, reinforcing the immense strength of the social construction of gender. The idea that social constructs …
Radical Politics Of Rich People: British Upper Class Support Of Interwar Communism And Fascism, Michal Rebecca Yadlin
Radical Politics Of Rich People: British Upper Class Support Of Interwar Communism And Fascism, Michal Rebecca Yadlin
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines why members of the British aristocracy and upper class supported communism and fascism during the interwar period. The pre-1900 generation attempted to hold onto their pre-war status and power by supporting fascism and its tenets of authoritarian rule, strict class division, and social regeneration through uber-nationalism. Meanwhile, the post-1900 generation rebelled against their elders and used communist ideology centered on an equal utopia to create a new political, economic, and social balance in the post-war era. Although the two generations aligned themselves with vastly different radical politics, their reasons for the change in support were similar. …
Racial Epithet Vignettes, Luz Maria Camarena Test
Racial Epithet Vignettes, Luz Maria Camarena Test
Boise State University Theses and Dissertations
In this paper and the accompanying exhibition I examine the overlap of racism and immigration. This work explores the silent violence of oppression that results from dominant culture attitudes and policies about immigration. It also considers how these attitudes affect the formation of identity, including my own.
For the development of this work, I had to move away from the idea of creating just a project inside my studio to an active participation with the community in search of answers to my internal questions. The work presented is the result of a long process of research within the Mexican community …

A More Perfect World, Amy Katherine Mayo
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
A More Perfect Worldis the story of Gabriel Garcia Levine Connolly, an intelligent, charismatic, and idealistic man who invents "Thing," which quickly becomes indispensable to virtually everyone in the world. His new-found wealth presents him with the opportunity to create a community that suits his values and his creative process, taking several friends and co-workers with him. Their search for a new home leads them to the idyllic island of Luu Saabhel; for Gabe, the opportunity to protect this small island and its indigenous people while creating "a more perfect world" for his own community is the ideal situation.

Sterling, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
There are times when something happens in the world of sport that is so startling that reactions come hard and fast and seem to overwhelm events. The Donald Sterling soliloquy hit with this sort of force, and the reaction was beyond what could be anticipated but was still more than appropriate. It was required.

Lee Hayward(Haywood)Simpson: The Fighting Preacher In Jim Crow Houston, 1920-1967, Freda Green Washington
Theses (Pre-2016)
Lee Hayward (Haywood) Simpson, Jr., preacher and civil rights activist, spent much of his adult life fighting against the system of segregation in this country. He devoted most of his efforts toward integrating African Americans into the mainstream of American life and improving race relations in Jim Crow Houston. As head of one of the most powerful black groups in Houston, The Baptist Ministers Association, Simpson became a leader, an organizer, mobilizer and social reformer for blacks in the city. Yet, very little research has been conducted on his life. Utilizing a descriptive, analytical approach, this thesis examines the life …
