Throughout my life my two main interests have been theatre and people. When I came to UNI I found a way to pursue these interests through my education, with a psychology major and a theatre minor. I had the first idea for my thesis when I had the opportunity to take some upper level costume design classes alongside some of my upper level psychology courses, and I noticed how naturally the two areas of study fit together. As medical issues present themselves in an individual’s life, some may resort to religion and spirituality. Because health care providers care for the individual, these practitioners need to be aware of the connections that occur within the realm of spirituality and medicine. The overall purpose of this study was to examine the attitudes of physician use of prayer during medical visits in a sample of adults. Specifically, four research questions were examined: Overall, do patients want their physicians praying for them? This article examines the stories of Braceros, Mexican contract workers who participated in an international labor agreement between the United States and México between 1942 and 1964. The stories Braceros tell challenge some conventional historiographical notions that they were powerless agents and victims of exploitative labor practices. The stories shed new light regarding the kinds of agency and power Braceros actually displayed in negotiating certain circumstances specific to their work.

This study covers the influence of Ottoman Balkan Heritage on the construction of Turkish national identity. In order to shed light on the intricate correlation among the Ottoman heritage, the Balkans and Turkish national identity, this article presents that while the Turkish republican elite took a negative stance on the Ottoman Empire to create a secular nation-state, Balkan migrants’ view on Islam as the main component of their identity helped to shape the creation of Turkish national identity.

"At Paul Strand’s birth in 1890, the Gold Coast was an important West African colony of the British Empire.1 By 1963, when Strand, then an older statesman of modern photography, made his second of three trips to photograph Africa, the Gold Coast had become Ghana, the first independent democratic nation on the continent.2 In contrast to his previous projects, in which books swiftly followed the conclusion of Strand’s travels, the photos of Ghana remained unpublished until 1976. The resulting volume, Ghana: An African Portrait, included 93 photographs and a text by British-born historian of Africa Basil Davidson (1914 – 2010). …

"From 1935 to 1968 abstract photographer Carlotta M. Corpron (1901-1988) taught several courses including art history, design, advertising design, photography, and creative photography at Texas State College for Women (TSCW) in Denton, Texas.1 Corpron pursued her photographic work through a series of progressively abstract experimentations which she called: “Nature Studies,” “Light Drawings,” “Light Patterns,” “Light Follows Form,” “Space Compositions,” and “Fluid Light Designs.” (Fig. 1) As she developed her own abstract style of photography, Corpron simultaneously shared her experiments with her students, and encouraged their own individuality. Corpron’s teaching was directly influenced by her own education, both formal and informal. …
