The Forgotten Movement: Church Planting Trends And Lessons (Part 2 Of 2), S. Joseph Kidder, Dustin Serns

Church planting is a challenging enterprise. Realistic expectations are essential, and adequate support systems and coaching are helpful. Our research revealed that those who commit to church planting encounter significant obstacles. Based on data and interviews from the top four conferences in church planting over the last decade in North America, part two of this article will address three common obstacles to church planting and show how God transforms them into amazing opportunities.

Using Spectral Analysis To Evaluate Flute Tone Quality, Ron Yorita

Master's Theses

Many skilled flutists place a high priority on "good" tone quality, or timbre. Timbre can be defined as the audible difference in character that a listener perceives for two notes played at the same pitch. Different timbres are determined by the combination and balance of harmonics that comprise a note. Unlike pitch and rhythm, timbre is difficult to objectively quantify. This project explores (1) how tone quality is described by skilled flutists, (2) whether the harmonic spectrum has some correlation with tone quality, (3) whether certain harmonic spectra are preferred, or considered "good".

How surprising was it when the arbitrator in the Ray Rice case ruled that Roger Goodell had acted “arbitrary in his discretion,” and had punished Rice twice for the same offense? In addition when Goodell claimed that Ray Rice misled him about the severity of the incident, the arbitrator found otherwise. Goodell was fully apprised by Rice as to the severity of the incident.

Critique can function as more than a scholarly pursuit; it can become a valued skill for surviving as an outsider within an academic context. Because universities are complex, largely reproductive systems, being a hard worker and following the rules does not necessarily lead to reward or even much notice. Increasing demands and multiple layers of political machinations foster disillusionment and alienation. Participating in programs, grants, and other initiatives only increases the perils, not to mention running the gauntlet of publishing and tenure. Hadrian was emperor at the very height of the Imperial Period (117–138 CE). He was selected to rule the Roman Empire because of his personal skills rather than his ancestry. One of the most well-traveled and cosmopolitan Roman emperors, he made two journeys around the empire during his reign. He is remembered for his love of the Greek world, particularly its arts and architecture. Portraits of reigning emperors ensured that Roman citizens knew what their ruler looked like, and were widely distributed throughout the empire. By depicting the human figure in ordinary moments, I highlight mundane, yet important, actions in daily life. In order to captivate the viewer, I use specific formal elements: abstraction that contrasts areas of representation, evidence of drawn line, a variety of high contrasts, and repetition of forms. I also use a layering technique to obscure or reveal information selectively. These formal elements are employed to compel the viewer to thoughtfully question and consider the presented figure. Narratives function to help us make decisions about what we do in our lives and in the lives of others. This study focuses on the intercultural marriages of three women who share Mexican and American cultures. Being a wife of a native Mexican, I proceed to examine the stories of how these three women were able to preserve or merge their cultural identity in the marriage and how they coped with the differences based on the following themes: culture, religion, and traditions. In my ceramic work, characteristics of magnified microbes, undulations of texture, and gouged shapes recur and appear to blend with inner human anatomy, woodland forms, underwater landscapes and decomposed life. Some of these influences are linked to my childhood. Other experiences come from my career in the respiratory care field and in my international travels. This study examines the Dove v. Parham school desegregation case that was heard on December 16, 1959, in the United States District Court, Eastern District of Arkansas, Western Division with Judge J. Smith Henley presiding. Attorney George Howard Jr. had brought forth the lawsuit on behalf of three African American students who were denied transfer to the all-white Dollarway School District. The tactic of massive resistance had failed to stop any integration attempts in the state and was replaced by minimal compliance. The Dollarway School District chose to use pupil placement laws to avoid integration. By using transcripts from the …

Ross Luther Lawhon was born in Floresvlle, Texas on June 28, 1894. He was the son of Luther Allen and Virginia Worsham Lawhon. He served in World War I as a corporal. This project involves exploring the life of Leo Patrick McLaughlin, especially his time as mayor of Hot Springs, by web exhibit, http://leopmclaughlin.omeka.net/exhibits/show/leo-patrick-mclaughlin--the-un. The goal is to inform readers of this colorful character in Arkansas history. This has been achieved by examining the gambling syndicate and political machine that McLaughlin created, as well as his connections with underworld figures such as Al Capone, Bugs Moran, and other criminals on the Most Wanted list. A provocative artist associated with the YBAs (Young British Artists), Damien Hirst often employs unexpected materials that conflate art, science, and popular culture. The hundreds of butterflies mounted in paint in Utopia—with their intense colors and symmetrical, geometric composition—recall a mandala or kaleidoscope image. Butterflies are among Hirst’s most frequent motifs. With their delicacy and short life cycles, they are a metaphor for the fragility of existence that reflects the artist’s interest in fundamental questions about mortality. 2008
