The Sacred Command Of The Lord My Brother The Emperor Should Have Come As Something Not To Neglect, Jacqueline Long Apr 2013

The Sacred Command Of The Lord My Brother The Emperor Should Have Come As Something Not To Neglect, Jacqueline Long

Classical Studies: Faculty Publications and Other Works

Late Roman stereotypes assigned women certain powers.1 Thus for example, when the elder but not senior emperor Theodosius faced a choice between defending the interests of Valentinian II, his ineffective colleague from the previous dynasty, or acceding to the aggression of Magnus Maximus, his countryman, an unimpeachably orthodox Catholic, a proven effective general, and as an emperor one whose imperium Theodosius had recognized,2 Valentinian’s Arian mother Justina could be understood to have swayed Theodosius decisively by offering him her daughter Galla in marriage.3 This scenario enabled hostile interpreters to trivialize Theodosius’s decision as irresponsible appetite and to belittle its execution …

Mythos Und Symbol: Ernst Jünger In Der „Konservativen Revolution“, Hannah Froehle Apr 2013

Mythos Und Symbol: Ernst Jünger In Der „Konservativen Revolution“, Hannah Froehle

La Représentation Des Femmes Dans Perceval, Lisa Ames Apr 2013

La Représentation Des Femmes Dans Perceval, Lisa Ames

Comme Pas Deux: France In The Sixties, Barbara Opar

Syracuse University French Colloquium

Many of the iconic images of the life and times of the sixties are associated with the United States. But France nonetheless was subject to some of the same cultural changes as the rest of the world. In certain ways, France paralleled what was happening in the rest of the world; in other ways the changes were different, or slower or occasionally even took place faster.

La Rivalité Et La Collectivité Féminine Dans Le Misanthrope De Molière Et Dans La Déclaration Des Droits De La Femme Et De La Citoyenne D’Olympe De Gouges, Gabriela Paris Apr 2013

La Rivalité Et La Collectivité Féminine Dans Le Misanthrope De Molière Et Dans La Déclaration Des Droits De La Femme Et De La Citoyenne D’Olympe De Gouges, Gabriela Paris

Steinbeck And Covici: The Men Behind The Gropes Of Wrath, Jessica F. Clark

Honors Program Theses and Research Projects

The Grapes of Wrath, written during the Great Depression, became one of the most well-known and well-read novels in American Literature. Its publication helped create an awareness, or social consciousness, of the issues the American public was facing at that period in time. The Grapes of Wrath was written in 1938, published in 1939, and won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1941. Despite its acclaim, the novel could not have been properly conceptualized or released without the influence of Pascal Covici, John Steinbeck's editor.

The two men's relationship began when Covici-Friede Publishers released Tortilla Flat, Steinbeck's second novel, in …
