Life In The Spirit: A Post-Constantinian And Trinitarian Account Of The Christian Life, Andrea Snavely
Life In The Spirit: A Post-Constantinian And Trinitarian Account Of The Christian Life, Andrea Snavely
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
Snavely, Andrea D. "Life in the Spirit: A Post-Constantinian and Trinitarian Account of the Christian Life." Ph.D. diss., Concordia Seminary, 2013. 235 pp.
Post-Constantinians John Howard Yoder and Stanley Hauerwas have re-imagined the Christian as a follower of Jesus, critiquing natural theology's dominance that eclipses seeing Jesus' life as the "content" of a Christian's life. However, they lack an answer to the "energy” question, of how one lives like Jesus, because their theologies are based on Logos-Christology. This dissertation proposes that a complementary Spirit-Christology provides the answer to the “energy" question by describing Jesus' life as receiver, bearer, and giver …
The Biblical Text Of Pelagius In His Commentary On 2 Corinthians A New Reconstruction, Wilbert Stelzer
The Biblical Text Of Pelagius In His Commentary On 2 Corinthians A New Reconstruction, Wilbert Stelzer
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
Stelzer, Wilbert, P. "The Biblical Text of Pelagius in His Commentary on 2 Corinthians: A New Reconstruction." PhD. diss., Concordia Seminary, 2013. 1767 pp.
What sort of Latin biblical text did Pelagius have when he wrote his commentary on the Pauline Epistles? Did he use an Old Latin text, a Vulgate text, or some mixture of the two? This question cannot be resolved by simply referring to the extant manuscripts since they are not in agreement.
Of the manuscripts that pass down Pelagius's early 5th century commentary, two stand out as more reliable than the rest. The Karlsruhe manuscript (A) …

Dissertations
This collection of essays and stories strives to consider questions of belonging and estrangement, family, and the many layers of the human experience. This collection is equally interested in questions of genre, and the potential for genre to stretch its own limits. Above all, this collection endeavors to question what makes a story, and what makes a story good.
Luther On Idolatry: A Lutheran Response To Contemporary False Belief, Michael Lockwood
Luther On Idolatry: A Lutheran Response To Contemporary False Belief, Michael Lockwood
Doctor of Philosophy Dissertation
Lockwood, Michael A. "Luther on Idolatry: A Lutheran Response to Contemporary False Belief." Ph.D. diss., Concordia Seminary, 2013. 303 pp.
The first step in solving any problem is to understand the problem. As Christians we know that Christ is the solution to the human plight. Yet what exactly is this plight? And why do so many people feel no need for the solution he provides? Luther's answer is that people feel no need for the true God until they are disenchanted with the false gods they have put in his place, which they think can provide all they need.

Buried In The Dust, Jessica Farrell
Buried In The Dust, Jessica Farrell
HIM 1990-2015
In July 2012, I left America for the first time to travel to Madurai, India, for a month-long journalism internship. The inspiration for the poetry in this work is deeply rooted in my experiences while in India, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Not knowing why I chose India to travel to for my first time abroad, I realized much later that I needed to be there in order to transition into the next stage of my life. I always wanted to experience what life was like without the amenities the Western world is accustomed to (hot showers, washers and dryers, reliable …
Economic Growth And Recovery In The United States, 1919-1941, Alexander J. Field
Economic Growth And Recovery In The United States, 1919-1941, Alexander J. Field
Economics
The first part of this chapter provides an overview of what lay behind record productivity growth in the US economy between 1929 and 1941. The second part considers the role of rigidities and other negative supply conditions in worsening the downturn and slowing recovery. While arguing consistently that the overarching explanation of the Great Depression will and should continue to emphasise a collapse and slow revival in the growth of aggregate demand, the chapter spends relatively little time on what drives this. The emphasis of the chapter is on aggregate supply—both the broad array of positive shocks that propelled potential …

A Progressive Mind : Louis D. Brandeis And The Origins Of Free Speech., Elizabeth Diane Todd
A Progressive Mind : Louis D. Brandeis And The Origins Of Free Speech., Elizabeth Diane Todd
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study argues that Associate Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis played a key role in shaping the jurisprudence of free political speech in the United States. Brandeis's judicial opinions on three freedom of speech cases in the post-World War I era provide the evidence for this argument. This thesis demonstrates how the Espionage and Sedition Acts of World War I allowed Brandeis the opportunity to reflect and rule on the Founding Fathers' meaning of free speech in a political democracy. Chapter I offers a detailed historiography of the Progressive Era and World War I. Chapter II provides a biography …
Other: Poems, Catherine Pritchard Childress
Other: Poems, Catherine Pritchard Childress
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This creative thesis is a collection of original poems entitled Other. The poems in Other reflect my study of the aesthetics of poetry as well as that of how women are represented as poets and as the subject of poems. Some of these poems are the product of my particular interest in the use of persona. Most reflect my desire to achieve self-reflection, to write from my experiences and perception, while still maintaining the universality that is an essential element of successful poems.
The critical introduction situates my poems within the framework of the poetic mode Personal Classicism—poetry that …
The Forgotten Footnote Of The Second World War: An Examination Of The Historiography Of Scandinavia During World War Ii, Jason C. Phillips
The Forgotten Footnote Of The Second World War: An Examination Of The Historiography Of Scandinavia During World War Ii, Jason C. Phillips
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The Anglo-American interpretation of the Second World War has continuously overlooked the significance of the Scandinavian region to the outcome of the war. This thesis seeks to address some of the more glaring errors of omission that have dampened the Anglo-American understanding of the war. Attention will first be paid to Finland and how its war against the Soviet Union in 1939-1940, known as the Winter War, influenced Adolf Hitler and his decision to launch Operation ‘Barbarossa.’ In regards to Sweden, attention will be paid to how critical Swedish iron ore was to the Nazi war economy. Finally, the thesis …

Victims Of Liberty: Virginia's Response To Loyalists And Loyalism In Williamsburg, 1770-1781, Stephanie Anne Seal
Victims Of Liberty: Virginia's Response To Loyalists And Loyalism In Williamsburg, 1770-1781, Stephanie Anne Seal
Master's Theses
In June, I 776, when Richard Henry Lee proposed a discussion about independence at the Second Continental Congress, ideas about political loyalty and royal ism in Virginia changed drastically. Almost overnight, there was a general consensus throughout most of the colony on the creation ofa Virginia exceptionalism: the idea that Virginia- as the largest, richest, and most populous colony- should be the leading voice of the upcoming American Revolution. This thesis argues that the ways Virginians perceived their place in the Revolutionary struggle was, in many ways, mirrored in their treatment of loyalists in the state. By examining publications on …
