A Monte Carlo Approach For Exploring The Generalizability Of Performance Standards, James Thomas Coraggio Apr 2008

A Monte Carlo Approach For Exploring The Generalizability Of Performance Standards, James Thomas Coraggio

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

While each phase of the test development process is crucial to the validity of the examination, one phase tends to stand out among the others: the standard setting process. The standard setting process is a time-consuming and expensive endeavor. While it has received the most attention in the literature among any of the technical issues related to criterion-referenced measurement, little research attention has been given to generalizing the resulting performance standards. This procedure has the potential to improve the standard setting process by limiting the number of items rated and the number of individual rater decisions. The ability to generalize …

Katherine Stinson Otero : A Brief Biography, Lori Ann Overly Burrup Apr 2008

Katherine Stinson Otero : A Brief Biography, Lori Ann Overly Burrup

History ETDs

Katherine Stinson, the fourth female licensed pilot in America, was a pioneer in aviation and proved by example that flying could not be limited by gender. She represents an early feminist position by her actions rather than words. Katherine Stinson was a pioneer in aviation, unafraid to fly to fulfill her dreams. She began her aviation career eleven years before Charles Lindbergh took his first flying lesson and sixteen years before Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic. A daring aviator, she achieved recognition as the “first” to accomplish many feats. She was the first …

How Soviet Russia Liberated Women: The Soviet Model In Clara Zetkin's Periodical 'Die Kommunistische Fraueninternationale', Liberty Peterson Sproat

Theses and Dissertations

Clara Zetkin was celebrated in both Germany and the Soviet Union before World War II because of her active involvement in the communist movement. She wrote prolifically and preached the virtues of socialism. She concerned herself particularly with women's needs, arguing that women would respond best to a different form of agitation than that used among men. Zetkin asserted that communism was the only way to respond to women's concerns as mothers and that only state involvement in domestic life would allow women to be fully emancipated. Women needed freedom from household work and increased training and support to aid …

Tolkien's Linguistic Application Of The Seventh Deadly Sin: Lust, Emma B. Hawkins

Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature

A look at how Tolkien developed the concept of the sin of lust in Middle-earth, giving it his own unique but linguistically-based interpretation as an intensifier of other sins, rather than using its more common, purely sexual, modern interpretation.
