This project proposed a program intended to foster a greater sense of community, shared responsibility, and mutual aid within Virginia Commonwealth University. The group members saw an opportunity to develop the expectation that students, faculty and staff will come to one another’s aid, and to provide the tools necessary to help ensure our mutual safety and health. The medical emergencies as an initial project were selected, focusing their research on the current status of CPR and first-aid training and the placement of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at VCU.

The purpose of this study is to investigate and identify factors that influence 3rd person (singular and plural) subject expression in the spoken Spanish of New Mexico, with particular emphasis on the role of full NPs as subjects. Subject expression has been the topic of many linguistic studies, especially with respect to personal pronouns (Bayley & Pease Alvarez 1997; Bentivoglio 1987; Cameron 1994, 1995; Cameron & Flores 2003; Flores-Ferrán 2002; Silva-Corvalán 1994; Travis 2005, To appear). This paper revisits Franco-Canadian immigration into the United States across the northern border at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. With the aid of film clips from Les Tisserands du pouvoir, a film depicting the immigrant contribution to the New England textile industry through the saga of one family, one's understanding of expatriation, relocation, and assimilation will be broadened.

According to Dr. Joan Borysenko, a woman's life proceeds according to predictable steps: one expects to rear one's children before being faced with the death of one's spouse and subsequent widowhood. However, in ultraconservative Algeria, where armed Islamist radicals during the past decade and a half have incited violence against ordinary citizens, especially women, the standard model of a woman's life does not necessarily apply. Latifa Ben Mansour, expatriate Algérienne, psychoanalyst, and contemporary francophone author, has made the Algerian woman's plight under ultra-right-wing rule the subject of many of her writings. I designed the poster 'Save El Paso’s Arroyos: There are Over 1,000 Reasons Why We Should'. Copies of the poster were sold at the Hal Marcus Gallery’s 'Save the Arroyos' exhibit. This grassroots art show ran from July 27 and was sponsored by the Frontera Land Alliance to raise awareness of the importance of keeping El Paso’s arroyos free from development.

This article analyzes a language revitalization program implemented in an elementary classroom on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, outside of Phoenix, Arizona. The authors created the program under the assumption that classroom pedagogy cannot help students learn their native language without everyday usage of the O'odham and Pipash languages at home. The authors provide the social and historical context for the community, and the language policies applied to the two tribes, and then they provide a detailed look at strenghts and weaknesses of implementing a language community model in the classroom.
