CdTe is one of the most promising absorbers for use in inexpensive semiconductor solar cells having achieved a high efficiency of 16.4% in small area cells [1]. One of the most important technological problems in obtaining high efficiencies is to have a good ohmic contact on the CdTe, which is characterized by a very high work function [2]. Cu is used as a dopant in CdTe at the contact to promote quantum mechanical tunneling [3]. But the oversupply of Cu causes the diffusion of Cu through CdTe to the underlying CdS layer resulting in the degradation of the cell performance. …

Living Arrangement Patterns Among The Latino Population In New York City, Debora Upegui

Introduction: This study examines living arrangement patters of racial/ethnic groups in New York City as of the year 2000 – particularly Latinos.

Methods: Data on Latinos and other racial/ethnic groups were obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey, reorganized for public use by the Minnesota Population Center, University of Minnesota, IPUMSusa. Cases in the dataset were weighted and analyzed to produce population estimates.

Results: New York State is the third ranking state in population and households in the country. Data for New York City (NYC) indicate that national patterns are not replicated when the number of family households …

In this essay, I discuss Springsteen's criminals by focusing on two albums, Nebraska and The Ghost of Tom Joad, and Springsteen's title song to the movie soundtrack Dead Man Walking. These are classic albums about criminals and prisoners, and "Dead Man Walkin’" may be one of the best songs ever written about being on death row. Before getting into the music, I first note the historical context - Springsteen's career has taken place during a particularly hostile time for lawbreakers - and offer a brief biographical sketch of Springsteen.

“The evil that men do” has been chronicled for thousands of years on the European stage, and perhaps nowhere else is human fear of our own evil more detailed than in its personifications in theater. In Stages of Evil, Robert Lima explores the sociohistorical implications of Christian and pagan representations of evil and the theatrical creativity that occultism has engendered. By examining examples of alchemy, astronomy, demonology, exorcism, fairies, vampires, witchcraft, hauntings, and voodoo in prominent plays, Stages of Evil explores American and European perceptions of occultism from medieval times to the modern age.

A System Of Epistemic Modality In Thai, Suda Rangkupan

The paper explores the syntax and semantics of epistemic modality in Thai grammar. Four syntactic categories are found to express epistemic modality-preverbal auxiliaries, initial particles, adverbs and final particles. Epistemic modality can also be further classified: five categories are found to be distinctive in the system of Thai grammar-assumptive, speculative, deductive, dubitative and certainty.

This article aims at identifying the roles of the Buddha in Thai myths in order to explain how the Thai were able to integrate Buddhism into their indigenous beliefs. Certain myths played an important role in recording the conflicts in the minds of Thai ancestors as to whether they should continue to hold to indigenous beliefs or whether they should adopt Buddhism. The roles played by the Buddha in certain myths reflect the fact that the Buddha took over roles that were once performed by local gods. Such roles were the provision of fertility, light and water. This article discusses the construction of Chinese-American identity in Maxine Hong Kingston's The Woman Warrior. Kingston's book reveals the role of story-telling in the construction of ethnic (and gendered) identity as the author narrates her personal experiences through the reconstruction of myths, legends, and 'talk stories' she inherited from her mother. The method Kingston uses to make sense of these stories is that of translation. Translation refers to a performance of ethnic and gendered identity in Kingston's narrative. Giorgio Agamben’s slender but profound monograph on the state of exception is an intervention into a world that is becoming more and more exceptionalist. The events of 9/11, the War on Terror, and the successive decrees and acts authorizing fingerprinting, interrogation, and indefinite detention of suspects in terrorist activities, all testify to Agamben’s prophetic portrayal of contemporary politics in which the state of exception—normally a provisional attempt to deal with political exigencies— has become a permanent practice or paradigm of government. Social scientists often explain religious effects in terms of religious group affiliations. Typically, researchers identify religious groups by denomination or some broader popular categorization, such as “fundamentalist” or “evangelical.” To capture religious differences more effectively, Steensland et al. (2000) propose an intricate classification of American denominations that takes into account the theology and historical development of various American religious traditions to predict individual attitudes and behaviors. We believe that equal care and attention should be devoted to the development of key measures of belief that may cross denominational lines. 明末清初是我國戲曲的豐盛時期，無論是曲、科、白及戲曲內容上已達至成熟的階段，尤其在戲曲題材方面極為多元化，有取材於傳說神話、民間故事、歷史史實等等，但蘇州的作家群卻取材於現實生活中江南奴變，創作了一系列被後世學者稱為「義僕戲」的作品，戲曲內容多以奴僕為主人捨生取義的故事為主線，因此學者大多研究義僕戲中奴僕對主人的忠誠，而忽略了主僕之間的真摯情感。 故本文嘗試從「義理」及「人情」兩方面著手，希望全面探究「義僕」形象。

本文分為七個部份：第一部份為引言，概述明清之際「義僕戲」出現的原因及本文的寫作動機。第二部份為朱素臣及其戲曲作品簡介。第三部份考證明末清初「蓄奴成風」的社會風氣。第四部份論述明末清初的社會背景與蘇州義僕戲大盛的關係。第五部份述說選擇《未央天》為研究對象的原因。第六部份則從「義理」與「人情」討論《未央天》的兩個角色－馬義和藏婆的「義僕」形象。第七部份為全文總結。
