CdTe/CdS solar cells have shown great potential for terrestrial solar power applications. To be commercially viable they need to operate efficiently for about 30 years. CdS/CdTe solar cells fabricated at USF have shown record efficiencies upto 16.5% [46]. This research involves the study of thermal stress (TS) and light soaking (LS) on the stability of high efficiency (>10%) solar cells. The change in key electrical parameters V_oc, FF, J_sc, A and J_o are quantified for more than 2000 hours of stressing.

The device degradation was found to increase with stress temperature for TS. Below …

In this thesis, a compact shielded balun, a diode detector, and a broadband sleeve dipole are modeled and implemented resulting in optimal devices presenting accurate operation.

The balun circuit is designed to meet the need for a miniaturized device with broadband application. Non-destructive monitoring of residual elastic stress in silicon wafers is a matter of strong concern for modern photovoltaic industry. The excess stress can generate cracks within the crystalline structure, which further may lead to wafer breakage. Cracks diagnostics and reduction in multicrystalline silicon, for example, are ones of the most important issues in photovoltaics now. The industry is intent to improve the yield of solar cells fabrication. There is a number of techniques to measure residual stress in semiconductor materials today. This study analyzed case and sentencing data from 632 capital cases involving Black and White defendants and victims, processed in North Carolina from May 1990 through December 2002. Logistic regression analysis of all cases and race-specific data allowed assessment of the variable effects of jury acceptance of statutory aggravating and mitigating factors on capital sentencing outcomes (death versus life). The purpose was to evaluate the role race plays in shaping jury use of legally defined factors in capital sentencing. Significant variance in the effect of jury acceptance of aggravators was observed between Black and White defendants. Black defendants pay a …

The acropolis of Yoqne‘am is occupied by an enclosure that is considered to be the remains of a Crusader fortress. The IAA excavations here explored the remains of the Crusader, Mamluk and Ottoman periods in three main areas: inside the enclosure, the connection with the Crusader church, and in one of the corner towers. This volume presents the architecture and stratigraphy of the site, as well as the pottery, coins, glass and other small finds, such as oil lamps and clay tobacco pipes.

The Concertino for Piano and Chamber Orchestra, by Brazilian nationalist composer Mozart Camargo Guarnieri (1907-1993), is one of his ten works for piano and orchestra. The work is cast in three movements in sonata, ternary, and rondo forms respectively, and contains elements of Brazilian folk music. It is possibly the most appealing work by Guarnieri in this medium, and it has been performed by artists of the caliber of Laís de Souza Brasil, Joo Carlos Martins, Roberto Szidon, and Caio Pagano. It dates from 1961, and like most of the other works by Guarnieri in this genre, its scores have …

The purpose of this document is to introduce singers, teachers, and devotees of musical theater to the prolific stage output of Hungarian composer Emmerich Kálmán (1882-1953), who ranks with Johann Strauss II and Franz Lehár as one of the most important and most-often performed among the composers of Viennese operetta. Although today relatively unknown in this country, Kálmán's operettas have been performed consistently in Europe for almost a century. French composer Darius Milhaud (1892-1974) lived in Rio de Janeiro from early 1917 to late 1918 as an attaché to the French ambassador to Brazil. While there he discovered its popular music, in particular the works of the Brazilian pianist Ernesto Nazareth (1863-1934). Milhaud was fascinated by the Afro-Brazilian syncopated rhythms that constituted Brazilian popular music, which according to Milhaud “helped me better understand the Brazilian soul.” Milhaud’s Brazilian experiences profoundly affected his compositional style and inspired several important works in this idiom. Upon his return to France, Milhaud composed a suite of twelve dances for piano entitled Saudades do …
