Master of Theater Production Graduate Projects
This project entailed the selection, background research and documentation, casting, direction, set design, and postproduction analysis of Natrona County High School's production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Documentation includes research and analysis of the play and an evaluation of the play as a production vehicle for the theatre department of Natrona County High School. The analysis also includes a discussion as to the non-traditional directorial vision of this production.

This project includes the selection, background research and documentation, casting, direction, and post-production analysis of Rockdale County High School's production of 1984. Documentation included research of the original novel, characters, past productions, and the structure of the play. A discussion as to the directorial vision and analysis in accordance with the Graduate Theatre Arts Program at Central Washington University is also included.

Waller's Machiavellian Cromwell: The Imperial Argument Of A Panegyrick To My Lord Protector, Timothy Raylor
English Faculty Work
Recent work on Waller’s Panegyrick to my Lord Protector has focused on its e¡ort to dress Cromwell in Augustan garb to translate his power into authority over a quiescent populace. Drawing on recently discovered evidence about the poem’s composition, about Waller’s reading of Machiavelli, and about his association with a fellow Buckinghamshire gentleman and MP, Sir William Drake (a figure known to have been influenced by Machiavelli), this article suggests that Augustan rhetoric forms only one strand in a discursive tapestry dominated by a Machiavellian argument for England’s imperial expansion.

Mimicking Virgins: Colonial Ambivalence And The Ancient Romance, Virginia Burrus

Burrus pursues juxtapositional readings of two sets of novelistic texts that cut across religious affiliations and the politics commonly associated therewith: the Acts of Paul and Thekla and Achilles Tatius's Kleitophon and Leukippe, on the one hand, and Heliodorus's Ethiopian Story and Joseph and Aseneth, on the other. Reading for resistance, she also reads for virginity, which functions as a site of articulated cultural ambivalence in each of the romances. That virginity is a characteristic and historically innovative preoccupation of ancient romances is scarcely a novel proposition.

What Caused The Civil War?, Edward L. Ayers

The challenge of explaining the Civil War has led historians to seek clarity in two ways of thought. One school, the fundamentalists, emphasizes the intrinsic, inevitable conflict between slavery and free labor. The other, the revisionists, emphasizes discrete events and political structures rather than slavery itself. Both sides see crucial parts of the problem, but it has proved difficult to reconcile the perspectives because they approach the Civil War with different assumptions about what drives history.
