The Nhl's Lost Season, Richard C. Crepeau Feb 2005

The Nhl's Lost Season, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

As demonstrated yesterday with the sad attempt to resurrect the hockey season, the differences between owners and players is greater than a few million dollars of salary cap or the personalities of Gary Bettman and Bob Goodenow. As usual the press oversimplified things and any number of people, including Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, fell for their lazy analysis. This is a war, not a collective bargaining process.

Owens, Jimmy Interview 2, Bronx African American History Project

Oral Histories

The second session begins with Owens discussing the teachers that had the biggest effects on him at Junior High School 40. One of those teachers was the head of the music department. He fondly remembers how he learned to play the trumpet with the book Easy Steps to the Band. This gentleman was his teacher for one year and was replaced by a woman who taught the students jazz. She also helped him prepare for the entrance exam for theHigh School ofMusic and Art, which he was accepted into.

My project proposal consisted of two main parts. One was simply to read a selection of historical and literary works that are ordinarily taught in or used as background for that literature course. The other was to pursue original research into a family legend—my family—and …
