Review Of Harry Christophers And The Sixteen, La Jeune France, Vicki Stroeher

Harry Christophers and The Sixteen (which, on this disc numbers from twelve to twenty-four singers) have assembled an exciting recording of rather unusual repertoire: that of the group of composers known as La Jeune France. Although these works may not speak aesthetically to everyone, the performances certainly will. The group's tuning is impeccable and their diction clear, even when the composer deliberately obscures the text. Christophers' interpretations are neither heavy­handed nor overly controlled, even as the chorus's expression ranges from the primitive and aggressive to the quiet and mystical.

In the past fifteen years, the performance of interviews has become a pronounced theatric form, ranging from Sam Woodhouse's Nuevo California to Leigh Fondakowski's I Think I Like Girls and even, some would argue, to the postmodem deconstructions of race and ethnography found in much of Culture Clash's work. Despite all of this, Smith's Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992, Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, and the Tectonic Theater's The Laramie Project remain the three interview-based plays that still receive the most attention, both through productions and academic discourse. "The House at the Edge of the World" is a collection of narrative poems and seven short stories. The prevalent theme in the collection is the convergence of psychological space and physical place, with an emphasis on how this tension can continue or disrupt the formation of identity. l1I The narrative poems such as "Midwifing Indiana" and "Switchman" explore this theme through use of historical context, polyphonic voices, and archetypal figures. This paper describes the typology of general preservation assessments and investigates what is being accomplished based on recommendations identified in the process. The author characterizes the assessment based on tabulated data. A range of institutional types and sizes are represented. The investment of staff time and the role of the consultant are examined. The most frequent goal of respondents was to develop a preservation plan. Interest in repair and reformatting was significantly less than interest in preventive activities. The findings of this study suggest that assessment reports are thorough and organized; report content is consistent across the population studied. The …

The death of a loved one impacts the grieving emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually. Interviews were conducted with members of the congregation experiencing loss to ascertain insights into the grieving process as well as pastoral and congregational acts deemed significantly helpful. Findings reveal both pastor and congregation have much to offer the grieving. A pastoral and congregational guide will help focus these offerings.

This thesis explains the origins of the nickname "West Point of the West," referring to the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Utah State Agricultural College (USAC) from 1946-1950. The analysis centers on the leadership of two men central to the university's successful ROTC program, USAC President E.G. Peterson and Professor of Military Science Colonel E.W. Timberlake.

The history of military training on college campuses is examined in order to establish the context in which President Peterson developed the program at USAC. Peterson's efforts to support the war effort during World War I and World War II are described, …

This paper covers the development of the chemical weapons division founded by Ishii Shiro, and discusses the horrible experimentation that was done by the Japanese. These experiments have been a source of controversy. The Chinese feel the Japanese should acknowledge these as war crimes. When the Japanese left Manchuria, they left the world’s largest chemical waste dump behind, and even to this day the government refuses to admit the actions of Unit 731. The information on biological warfare that the Japanese discovered during the experimentation in China later was used as a negotiation tool with the United States to secure …

The calling leads him on a quest from South Florida to the Midwest in search of higher learning and self discovery. The lrish-Catholic working-class of Scranton, Pennsylvania used social networks fanned in Irish nationalist organizations to expand the men's labor movement between 1879 and 1883. Formed in 1879, the Irish National Land League worked for land reform in Ireland and called on Irish-Americans to serve as fund-raisers for the cause. The Land League prospered in the Scranton area drawing into its ranks many Iiish-Americans that worked in the anthracite coal mines. The Knights of Labor, lend by Scranton native Terence V. Powderly, had established multiple local assemblies in the region, but had a difficult time recruiting hi sh-Catholic members. Leaders of …
