Jack Kleinsinger presents Highlights in Jazz. The concert was held at The Tribeca Performing Arts Center, Thursday, May 12th, 2005 at 8:00 pm. Jack served as producer and master of ceremonies for the series of concerts. Annotations On Selected Entries – The Journal And Letters Of Francis Asbury [1771-1816], John Benjamin Burroughs

HCAC Research

English-born Francis Asbury (1745-1816), famed bishop of the American Methodist movement, visited the area that is now known as Horry County, South Carolina several times during the period 1785 to 1815. Asbury spread Methodism in America as part of the Second Great Awakening. In his journal and letters he left us several interesting accounts of the area and its residents. Annotations have been added in order to clarify his remarks.

Iontophoretic Trans-Dermal Drug Delivery Through Sweat Glands, Vardan Ter-Antonyan

Although an iontophoretic trans-dermal drug delivery is known as an effective means for drug transportation through the human skin, it is not widely used because of the various side effects that come to life due to a high applied voltage of up to 80V. This study introduces an alternative means of drug transportation through the skin by means of sweat gland activation and reduction of an applied voltage to ensure that the iontophoresis is safe. The skin conductance studies performed on the pulmar area using 50mM of NaCl showed that the activation of sweat glands led to the increase of …

Countess Urraca Lope de Haro was the daughter of the noble Lord Diego Lope de Haro, friend and advisor to King Alfonso VIII of Castilla-León and granddaughter of Lord Lope Díaz de Haro and Lady Aldonza Ruiz de Castro, aristocratic courtiers as well as popular monastic patrons. As a young and wealthy widow, Countess Urraca took monastic vows at the Cistercian nunnery of Santa María de Cañas founded by her grandparents. Within a short time of uniting herself to this monastery, she was chosen as its fourth abbess in 1225, a position she held for thirty-seven years until her death …

School Experiences Then And Now: Are Parents' Perceptions Of Their Own School Experiences Related To Their Perceptions Of Their Child's Middle School?, Roxana M. Sanchez-Horn

The current study explored the relationship between parents perceptions of their childs middle school and parents perceptions of their own school experiences. Additionally, it was important to research how these relationships differed among variables. The variables explored were (1) race, (2) parents own educational backgrounds (level of education), and (3) socio-economic status. Based on scales commonly used in the study of parent involvement, a survey (i.e., Parent Perceptions of Schooling) was developed. International Female Film Directors: Their Contributions To The Film Industry And Women's Roles In Society, Rebecca Panosky

Honors Scholar Theses

An in-depth analysis of five female film directors from four different countries: France, Germany, Italy, and the United States. Critical readings are provided of their films, discussing how each of these women support, challenge, or defy gender stereotypes, and how they represent women in society. Analysis is offered of how their films and female characters are significant to women's work in the film industry, and how their messages on gender identity and gender stereotypes challenged the societies in which they lived, or live.

The dramatic account of Joseph and his brothers in Genesis 37-50 has been the subject of many commentaries and reflections, by both Jews and Christians. How have the questions of crime and forgiveness been treated as a major theme by Christians? From early texts the pious effort to interpret the biblical message into a coherent whole led to a link between Joseph and Jesus. How has this been developed in the first millennium of Christianity? A Study Of The Southern Appalachian Granny-Woman Related To Childbirth Prevention Measures., Harriet P. Masters

Documented as serving in the midwife capacity from the 1880s to the 1930s, the “granny-woman,” often was the only line of defense regarding childbirth support practices for many childbearing age women living in the region during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The early twentieth century saw the granny-women discredited and subject to elimination as a result of a purposeful campaign conducted by the male-dominated medical profession. Using knowledge of herbal remedies, the granny-woman played an integral part in the survival of the inhabitants of the region, especially related to childbirth. These centuries-old, herbal-based ministrations have been explored to …
