In this article, the authors use two qualitative studies to address transnationalism in the intersection of migration, gender and health promotion studies. The experiences of women who have recently (less than 3 years ago) immigrated to Canada are examined focusing on their transnational health promotion activities. Despite the invisibility of women’s unpaid work in transnational and migration studies, we argue that the well-being of families, communities and nations is currently being produced in local, national, and international networks of health promotion and care giving and by the wealth generated by women’s labour. In this paper, I examine the transnational stories of two women --one born in France of Algerian descent and the other born in the United States of Mexican descent-- whose lives are interrupted by the inability to understand their status as ethnic women in the country of their birth. By analyzing their works in the proper socio-historical context and by defining how they fit into a relatively new mode of expression --the autoethnography-- I establish a transnational dialogue between the works of these two women. This paper examines the essential role that the Internet has played in mobilizing a transnational feminist response to the war on terror. The use of the Internet by the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan (RAWA) and feminists opposed to the war on terror exemplify the power of this technology to give voice to women who have in many different ways been silenced off-line. In his paper, "Nation, Heritage, and Hospitality in Britain after Thatcher," Ryan S. Trimm examines the trope of cultural inheritance in postimperial Britain. "Heritage," an ubiquitous term in 1980s Britain, circulates largely as a conservative concept, an imagined bequest that works to exclude groups such as minorities who are disinherited putatively by not being part of the past and conceived as handing down some legacy. Such seems to be precisely the way heritage functioned under Margaret Thatcher's heritage politics, a collection of policies that associated icons such as the country house with the nation itself. Lan Dong explores in her paper, "Tracing Chinese Gay Cinema 1993-2002" the recent landscape of Chinese gay cinema through discussing the following three feature films: Chen Kaige's Farewell My Concubine (1993), Zhang Yuan's East Palace, West Palace (1996), and Stanley Kwan's Lan Yu (2001). The grouping derives from the concern that they all set their stories in Beijing. Using the capital city as a cultural background, the films display how queer is perceived in China from the 1920s to the end of the 1990s. In her paper, "Reality TV, Faking It, and the Transformation of Personal Identity," Joanne Morreale examines the hybrid makeover, game, and reality TV show Faking It as a cultural form that portrays the transformation of personal identity through performance. Morreale argues that the contents and performance of the show intensify the link between consumer culture and the fabrication of identity by teaching that fulfillment comes from becoming, rather than having, a commodity. In his paper, "Dust and the Avant-Garde," Jake Kennedy presents an interdisciplinary exploration of experimental modernism in the work of visual artist Marcel Duchamp and writer Gertrude Stein. Development in CALL technology can effectively implement cognitive principles and realize the goals of the integrated approach in the field of TAFL. The thesis describes a software program designed for teaching beginners MSA and ECA simultaneously using idioms as a unifying conceptual element.

This thesis discusses the military architecture of the Ayyubid period (1171-1250) in Egypt and its most important extant structures. We will discuss the fortifications of Cairo (Cairo citadel and the walls) and the two extant citadels in Sinai: the citadel of al Gindi in Wdi Sedr and the citadel of Salah al Din near Taba. We will only discuss the architectural forms and historical settings, but in our discussion we will contest the current accepted perceptions about the military fortifications of Cairo and present alternate theories to numerous issues.

Military slavery constituted one of the most important institutions in medieval Islamic history. Most research concerning military slavery concentrates on the Mamluk dynasty, while relatively little research explores the beginning of the institution and the reasons for its introduction. Those works that concentrate on military slavery or the 'Abbasid time period either use it as an example for other arguments or do not provide enough detail to create a complete argument. This thesis explores the significance of cannibalism and its appearance as a literary motif with the rise of empire and its presence and transformation in more recent literary works. In colonial literature the idea of cannibalism often arises to describe the behaviors and rituals of native tribes and peoples. But most importantly it is employed by writers to describe the colonial settler's biggest fear of that native 'other' and his main difference from the conception of a civilized self, as suggest by such canonical works as Shakespeare's The Tempest and Danniel Dofoe's Robinson Crusoe.

This thesis looks at inscriptions on lustre painted vessels in the Fatimid period as a dating criterion. Consideration is given to developments in calligraphy and its layout on vessels relative to painting. Five groups are classified each containing two or three examples, one of which simultaneously constitutes a link to the previous group and a development towards a new style. The vessels examined belong chiefly to the schools of the potters Muslim and Sa'd. The inspiration for the thesis, "Beckett's Wager: A Pascalian Reading of Waiting for Godot" was found in an article entitled: "History Electrified into Anagogy: A reading of waiting for Godot", by David Stempel. Stempel proposed an anagogic reading of the play, and suggested as a conclusion, that the waiting signified waiting on the safe side of Pascal's wager. In this thesis, the validity of his approach and conclusion are examined.

Bode, Gerhard H. "Conrad Dieterich (1575-1639) and the Instruction of Luther's Small Catechism." Ph.D. Diss., St. Louis, MO: Concordia Seminary, 2005.350 pp.

Luther's catechisms have had a lasting impact on catechesis in the Lutheran church and are still widely used in Lutheran circles more than 475 years after Luther wrote them. Conrad Dieterich (1575-1639) wrote several catechisms based on Luther's Small Catechism that were widely used in Lutheran circles during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Two of Dieterich's works were intended for use by upper-level students in Latin schools and employed dialectical method in presenting the catechetical doctrine. The dissertation …
