Ethnic Conflict In South Texas: 1860–1930, Alberto Rodriguez

South Texas ethnic conflict has been documented as a White/Brown struggle excluding the many Blacks that came to the border from 1860–1930. Blacks that came to South Texas faced legal segregation by Anglos and a Mexican caste system that dated back to Spanish colonial times. Alliances with both Anglos and Mexican caused both social mobility and conflict for South Texas Blacks. This research argues that Blacks have been marginalized by both Anglos and Mexicans on the South Texas border. 陸象山的門人楊簡（1141－1226），字敬仲，諡文元，號慈湖，是南宋後期 最有影響的儒家。他的意義不僅限於南宋，而且貫穿大半部明代的儒學史。隨 著王學的興起，慈湖心學在明代中後期得以復興。比起陸象山來，王陽明與慈 湖有更多的共鳴，慈湖心學也因此受到王學論敵的激烈攻擊。在陽明身後，慈 湖心學盛極一時，影響之大，莫或過之。

慈湖在宋明儒學史中具有舉足輕重的地位，而學界過去的研究較為薄弱， 近年出現的幾部新著，在理論分析的深入與貼切、史實鈎沈的廣博與詳確等方 面，仍有不足之處。論文根據現存慈湖全部著作，立足文獻本身，仔細梳理其 思想演進的脈絡，以整個宋明理學為背景，注重思想源流的比較，以“精神” 與“自然”二者為綱領，對其心學思想進行切實詳盡的解釋、分析與評估。論 文後附錄《慈湖箸述新攷》，對慈湖箸作的存佚、刊刻、流傳、輯佚、箸作孱名 等問題進行詳確的攷察。

In this paper I explore the limitations of liberal political theory in relation to the notions of public property and public interest. I argue that the fundamentally atomistic and individualistic ontological foundations of the liberal tradition preclude any coherent notion of public goods and public interest.

This article provides an overview of the love affairs of Lady Caroline Lamb. Before she met Lord Byron, she had a long messy affair with Godfrey Vassal Webster. Their affair was known through letters which was held in the British library, the public records office in Chichester, and the like. Caroline cannot or will not adapt to the complicated social milieu of regency London.

Lady Caroline Lamb fictionalized the Byronic persona in Glenarvon (1816) and gave voice to the female characters that remain largely silent in Byron’s early work. Byron responded to her mimicry and to the female perspective of Glenarvon by creating a feminized hero and strong speaking roles for women in Don Juan, though his stated purpose was to undermine, not uphold, feminine power.

The Korean Language And The Effects Of Its Honorifics System In Advertising: Deferential Vs. Informal Speech As Regulatory Prime On Persuasive Impact, Jin K. Han, Yong Seok Sohn, Kun Woo Yoo

A very prominent feature of the Korean language is its extensive honorifics system, where the speaker is obliged to adopt a level of speech (deferential vs. informal) befitting the status of the target audience. As the context for using deferential (informal) speech parallels the setting for prevention (promotion) focus, we set out to examine whether the Korean honorifics system itself functions as a natural prime for regulatory orientation. In Study 1, we find that deferential (informal) speech style activates prevention (promotion) focus in the addressee. Black American women have the highest screening rates for cervical cancer among all the ethnic groups in the United States. Even though evidence from the literature suggests that the number of deaths from cervical cancer in the United States could be reduced by preventive screening, this particular minority population still suffers disproportionately higher mortality from the disease than the other minority and majority populations in the United States. Research has clearly demonstrated that variables associated with the family, child, and utilization of social supports relate to parent perceived competency. However, the research has failed to demonstrate which variable best predicts parent perceived competency. The primary goals of this study were to identify those variables that account for the most variability in parent perceived competency, to examine the relative effects of child characteristics on parental psychopathology, and to evaluate the moderating effects of social support on parent perceived competency based upon various parental characteristics. From 1880 to 1923, Irish nationalists created and sustained an independent cultural identity shaped by external and internal forces. British political cartoons reveal key external cultural perceptions of the Irish, while Irish nationalist writings endorse internal concepts of character and project political aims. Irish nationalists present an uninterrupted internal identity in pursuit of autonomy. Images published in Punch, or the London Charivari, provide external factors of identity that evolve from exaggerated threat to trivial concern while the nationalist political demands they represent escalate.

When trying to identify the driving forces behind the development of traits, 'nature' and 'nurture' are presented as the sole answers to a seemingly inevitable philosophical question. There must be reasons behind why an individual has a certain trait, so the rhetoric goes, and the line of reasoning has to go in one of two directions. Either factors in the individual's environment - such as parental care or life experience - are responsible, or the trait is an immutable characteristic of the individual's biological makeup. In this research on the academic performance of African American males I used data from the National Educational Longitudinal Study: Base Year 1988 to examine the factors that effect academic performance of one small group, the African American male. Independent variables that were used were SES, self-efficacy, self-esteem, two cultural variables, marital status of parents, and discipline. After controlling for SES two variables were related to GPA. The higher the self-efficacy of African American males the higher their GPA and the more discipline problems they had the lower their GPA. บทความวิจัยนี้เรียบเรียงจากการทำโครงการวิจัยแบบปฏิบัติการ (Workshop) ที่นำเอานักวิจัยและศิลปินไทยที่มีประสบการณ์ในการสร้างสรรค์งาน ร่วมสมัยจากท่านาฏศิลป์ (โขน) และดนตรี-การขับร้องไทยไปแลกเปลี่ยนและพัฒนา กระบวนการทำงานร่วมสมัยกับศิลปินโขนผู้ชาย (lakhon-Khoal) และวงปี่พาทย์ (Pinpiat) ของกัมพูชาการทำวิจัยแบบปฏิบัติการดังกล่าวเป็นโครงการทดลองที่จะ พัฒนาและบันทึกกระบวนการสร้างสรรค์งานกับศิลปินกัมพูชาที่มีขนบแบบแผนของ การแสดงและดนตรีใกล้เคียงกับไทย โดยศิลปินไทยทำหน้าที่เป็นศิลปินข้อมูล (Facilitator) กำกับดนตรี (Music-director) และกำกับลีลา (Choreographer) ประสบการณ์การเรียนรู้จากการทำงานร่วมกันของของศิลปินทั้งสองประเทศ ที่มีพื้นความรู้ในแบบขนบนิยมนั้นจะทำให้ศิลปินเกิดความเข้าใจในเรื่องการเตรียม ความรู้ การจัดระเบียบร่างกาย ขั้นตอนการฝึกฝนและพัฒนาองค์ความรู้ในการ ทำงานร่วมสมัยจากดนตรีและนาฏศิลป์แบบขนบนิยมของตนโดยไม่ต้อง ดัดแปลง ให้เป็นศิลปะที่ประสมรูปแบบกับดนตรีและการเต้นรำแบบตะวันตก การวิจัยครั้งนี้มี การออกแบบเป็นพิเศษโดยให้ศิลปินทั้งสองฝ่าย ได้พบปะและกำหนดขอบเขตใน การทำงานร่วมกันเป็นเวลา 3 สัปดาห์ ทำให้เกิดการแสดงสั้นๆ 3 ชิ้นด้วยกัน อันเป็น ผลของกระบวนการทำงาน

ในวงการวรรณกรรมไทยนั้น รูปแบบการประพันธ์แนวสัจนิยมมหัศจรรย์ นับว่าได้รับความนิยมเป็นอย่างมาก นักเขียนในวงการไม่ว่าจะเป็นกนกพงศ์ สงสมพันธุ์ เรวัตร พันธุ์พิพัฒน์ ศิริวร แก้วกาญจน์ ประชาคม ลุนาชัย และอุเทน พรมแดง ต่างสร้างสรรค์งานเขียนที่มีกลิ่นอายของสัจนิยมมหัศจรรย์ ทำให้มีการกล่าวขวัญถึงวรรณกรรมแนวนี้อย่างต่อเนื่อง เป็นที่ทราบกันดีว่าสัจนิยมมหัศจรรย์เป็นรูปแบบ การประพันธ์ที่มีต้นกำเนิดจากต่างประเทศและมีชุดแนวคิดและอุดมการณ์รองรับ ชัดเจน ในแง่หนึ่งอาจจะกล่าวได้ว่าสัจนิยมมหัศจรรย์เป็นวาทกรรมที่มีกรอบและ ขอบเขต มีพัฒนาการที่ตอบโต้กับวาทกรรมสัจนิยม บทความนี้จึงมุ่งเน้นศึกษา การนำรูปแบบการประพันธ์ดังกล่าวมาใช้ในบริบทวรรณกรรมไทย เพื่อวิเคราะห์ ความเหมือนและความแตกต่างในเชิงวาทกรรมแห่งความเป็นอื่น โดยมุ่งศึกษา เปรียบเทียบวรรณกรรมไทย 3 เรื่อง คือ โลกที่กระจัดกระจาย ของศิริวร แก้วกาญจน์ "แม่มดแห่งหุบเขา" ของกนกพงศ์ สงสมพันธุ์ และหมานครของ คอยนุช

บทโขนสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์: นาฏยกระบวนทัศน์, จักรกฤษณ์ ดวงพัตรา

การศึกษาบทโขนที่แต่งขึ้นในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ผ่านนาฏยกระบวนทัศน์ จากต้นฉบับตัวเขียน และฉบับตีพิมพ์ครั้งต่าง ๆ ในบทความนี้ เป็นความพยายาม จะทดลองพิจารณาบทโขนด้วยวิธีวิทยาซึ่งแตกต่างไปจากที่ได้เคยมีผู้ศึกษาไว้แล้ว เพื่อยืนยันพื้นฐานความคิดที่ว่า การศึกษาในสาขาวิชานาฏยศิลป์ไทยนั้น สามารถ ศึกษาโดยอาศัย "ตัวบท" เป็นข้อมูลหลักได้ และผลจากการทดลองศึกษาครั้งนี้ พบว่าวิธีการสร้างบทโขนที่แตกต่างกันในแต่ละยุคสมัย และตามลักษณะเฉพาะของบุคคลนั้น มีนัยสำคัญต่อความเปลี่ยนแปลงของกระบวนเล่นโขนอย่างชัดเจน และเห็นจริง

"ถ้าคุณพลอยยังอยู่ " : ความยอกย้อนของมโนทัศน์สัมพันธบท, สายวรุณ น้อยนิมิตร

"ถ้าคุณพลอยยังอยู่" เป็นบทละครขนาดสั้นที่จักรกฤษณ์ ดวงพัตราได้นำ บทล้อเรื่อง "ถ้าแม่พลอยยังอยู่" และนวนิยายเรื่องสี่แผ่นดินมาสร้างสรรค์ขึ้นใหม่โดย นำเสนอผ่านมุมมองของคนเขียนบทละคร ทําให้คุณพลอยกลับมามีชีวิตอีกครั้งใน เหตุการณ์ปฏิวัติสมัยพลเอกเปรม ติณสูลานนท์ บทละครเรื่องนี้สามารถศึกษาได้ ด้วยมโนทัศน์สัมพันธบท ขณะเดียวกันก็สะท้อนให้เห็นความยอกย้อนของมโนทัศน์ นี้ด้วยว่า หากพิจารณาตามแนวคิดที่ว่าด้วย"มรณกรรมของผู้แต่ง" อันเป็นที่มาของ มโนทัศน์นี้แล้ว บทบาทของผู้ประพันธ์จะยังคงมีความสําคัญในฐานะของผู้สร้างสรรค์ อีกหรือไม่ หรือจะมุ่งหาความหมายเฉพาะในตัวบทและปฏิกิริยาของผู้รับเท่านั้น
