Returning To The Originary Enmity Of Philosophy And Literature: Juan Benet's Del Pozo Y Del Numa (Un Ensayo Y Una Leyenda), Stephen D. Gingerich
World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures Faculty Publications
The article discusses the book "Del pozo y del numa (un ensayo y una leyenda)," by Spanish author Juan Benet. The book is a critical analysis of the work of German novelist Thomas Mann. The article explores the similarities between the two writers, and while Benet was disappointed in Mann's opus "Joseph and His Brothers," both writers were accustomed to include philosophical digressions in their works. The article also mentions Benet's love-hate relationship with literary criticism.

This pair of discs by Trio Mediaeval offers an imaginative soundscape of music both ancient and new. Trio Mediaeval's approach to the ancient is laudable and lovely, but the contemporary compositions written specifically for this all female group seem to give them their truest voice. The older recording, Words of the Angel (2001), intersperses movements of the Tournai mass--one of the earliest manuscript compilations of polyphonic settings of the texts of the Ordinary—among monophonic laudae and English Marian motets and sequences. The various styles provide textural and harmonic relief, a real concern in a completely unaccompanied recording. The recording takes …

Lest We Forget (MS-396)
Judy Leasure interviewed John Pratt about his life and experiences with his developmentally disabled daughter. The interview was part of the Lest We Forget Collection of oral histories that was created to capture the stories of those involved with mental health and those with developmental disabilities. The project focused on stories and experiences of people from Ohio that lived at, worked in, or dealt with large institutions and the modern movement to smaller home settings and modern treatment of mental illness and developmental disabilities.

Research on the Hispanic students' educational experience has mainly focused on their lack of academic success and those factors that contributed to their shortcomings. With the United States' Hispanic population surpassing that of African Americans, it compounds the problem of the already extremely high Hispanic high school dropout rate. A paradigm shift began in 1988 with a study by Buriel and Cardoza, which examined the relationships of Mexican-American high school seniors' academic success in relation to the students' academic ambitions, the mothers' aspirations, Spanish language background, and socioeconomic factors. En este curso trataremos temas tales como “la segunda venida de Cristo”, “el fin del mundo”, “el milenarismo”, “la vida eterna y la condenación eterna”, “las señales antes del fin”, “la tribulación”, “el purgatorio” y las ideas, por ejemplo, de los Adventistas y Testigos de Jehová sobre el fin del mundo.
