This article suggests that college and university professors consider taking on a more public role that carries them, with greater frequency, beyond the iron gates or concrete pavements of their own academic institutions into the public sphere – not merely for high-income consulting but with the goal of educating the general public.

Furman University Oral Histories
Audio interview with Joe Roberts, 1952 graduate of Furman, and assistant to President Gordon Blackwell and President John Johns. Mr. Roberts begins the interview talking about Furman's Phi Beta Kappa chapter and it's importance. He praises Francis Bonner, discusses Bonner's importance to Furman, and describes how he worked with each Furman president throughout his career. Mr. Roberts speaks about the Daniel bequest, the history and building of the chapel. He gives an in-depth recounting of the severance between Furman and the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
