Excerpt: "This chapter has more than one goal. First, I want to introduce readers to the apparatus of practices, institutions and virtues (PIV) that helps us understand what virtues are. Second, I want to explore the notion of politics a little, to see what its main problem is. (I will claim, perhaps surprisingly, that business management is largely a variation of politics.) Third, I want to reintroduce civility and suggest that it is an important contributor to solving the political problem (and problems of management).

Switzerland was involved in a civil war from 1440 to 1446. To defend itself, Zurich called out its militia. In the militia records from 1442, the entire structure of the force can be reconstructed. A list of over two thousand names of the militiamen is presented. This includes their occupations, area of residence, the weapons they carried, and where they stood in the Zurich battle formation.

This study evaluates the efficacy of machine translation (MT) in domains where MT is not conventionally used, that is, in non-technical domains where the subject matters involve human, social and/or societal phenomena. The ultimate purpose of this endeavor is to assess the capacity of MT in dealing with the phenomenon of 'context' as well as utterance interpretation. The evaluation endeavor is twofold, consisting of evaluation of MT product and evaluation of MT process, with the latter being the main focus. Postcolonial discourse has argued that the relationship between the colonizer and the colonized is not a mere binary opposition of two separate entities. Rather, the contention is that what lies between the metropolitan center and its subordinated periphery is a dynamic site called the "liminal space", where the differences between the colonizer and the colonized are engaged in a dialogic interaction. Postcolonial study argues that this process affects the power dynamics between the two.
