From the time of European contact with indigenous people in the region of North America that later became the United States of America, the concept of higher education and its attendant institutions underwent constant change. Like many people in North America, many Indians at one time or another fell under the influence of European and/or Euroamerican higher education to varying degrees. Native Americans possessed many kinds of educational traditions, but, after European settlement of North America was underway in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, imported forms of higher education dominated. Civil Rights in Prince Edward County
Ms. Jackie Wall was born in Calcutta India, in 1926, and later lived with her Aunt and Uncle. After her Uncle died she moved with her Aunt to Baltimore, then later to Farmville, Virginia. Jackie married J. Barrye Wall Jr. and moved back to Farmville. She discusses her thoughts about the school closings and the Wall's involvement in massive resistance, as well as her recollection of the time period and the hostilities in the community. This interview was conducted by Susan Bagby and Carolyn Dewolfe.
