From the beginning of time in New Mexico, women have nurtured, guided, influenced and labored for their people, their families, and their communities. Their contributions have been acknowledged, only in recent years, through the unearthing of women's history. The sources of information about women in the early days had to be teased out from diaries, letters, excavations, oral histories, and other non-traditional sources. Inferences had to be derived from hints and clues in the records of men's activities, then assembled like a jigsaw puzzle into a more complete picture. Much of society believes that the media focuses more on "getting the story", rather than reporting the news. Latin dance music constitutes one of the most dynamic and sophisticated urban popular music traditions in the Americas. Improvisation plays an important role in this set of genres, and its styles are sufficiently distinctive, complex, and internally significant as to merit book-length treatment along the lines of Paul Berliner's volume Thinking in Jazz (1994). To date, however, the subject of Latin improvisation has received only marginal and cursory analytical treatment, primarily in recent pedagogical guidebooks and videos. This project, written in French, is an exploration of the relationship between the personal ideology of French film director François Truffaut and his films. In examining such things as camera movements, camera angles, music, staging, and dialogue, the Scholar discovered how Truffaut’s ideas of childhood were displayed in his films. The life and work of Truffaut serves as a great example of how a director’s worldview is inevitably reflected in their films.

Robert Cormier is "the premier writer for adolescents in the United States" according to The Handbook of American Popular Literature and dozens of literary critics. Although his novels have won numerous awards from the American Library Association (ALA), his novels have also generated controversy from critics who believe his novels are excessively dark and disturbing. Adolescents in Robert Cormier's world are by no means the average teenagers one may expect to find at a local high school. Sociology has been notoriously bereft of theory dedicated to explaining the emergence and perpetuation of the social phenomenon of religion. Berger’s sacred canopy contention and Stark and Bainbridge’s theory of religion are the most salient, if not sole, exceptions. Berger claims that religion functions by giving significance to an otherwise meaningless world. Stark and Bainbridge, on the other hand, insist that religion functions by compensating folks for those things which secular society cannot provide them. In sum, Berger’s approach is holistic yet lacks a program for empirical study, and Stark and Bainbridge’s approach is too tangled up with the embattled …

During the thirteenth century, preachers considered sermons to be among the most important methods of communicating written material to the unlettered. Within a sermon, the use of exempla—short stories used to illustrate a moral point—was a primary means of disseminating theological information, and throughout the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries the number of exempla compilations intended as preaching aids increased markedly. Exempla collectors such as Caesarius of Heisterbach and Stephen of Bourbon shared and re-used stories to disseminate theological knowledge. John Skelton's 1514 flyting "Agenst Garnesche" has been subject to little critical scrutiny. This neglect can perhaps be attributed to the fact that Christopher Garnesche's contribution is missing, but it is also characteristic of the relative neglect accorded to the flyting as a genre, a neglect that has also colored the interpretation of many of Skelton's more abusive poems. One critic, for example, has dismissed the poem as being "nothing but personal abuse of a particularly virulent type . . . adorned with a singular collection of epithets and incomprehensible allusions, which serve only to befog and irritate the reader." …

In recent years there have been a surprising number of legal attacks on the restaurant chain called Hooters. These attacks have all been based, one way or another, on a claim of sex discrimination in employment. Yet the attacks vary considerably: some are based on claims of sexual harassment, some on claims by private individuals that they have been discriminated against in hiring because they are male, still others on general claims that the chain is engaged in systemic sex discrimination. It is generally accepted that the present-day Slovak standard language was codified in its basic form in the mid 19th century by the Slovak scholar Ľudovít Štúr. A similar, but unsuccessful, attempt to create a standard Slovak language was made by Anton Bernolák in the late 18th century. There is not general agreement, however, on the degree or type of standardization, or better, normalization, exhibited by Slovak texts in the pre-codification period (15th-18th centuries).
