Voices From The Margin, Williams Compton
Mahurin Honors College Capstone Experience/Thesis Projects
Voices From The Margin is a musicul interpretation of the experience of domestic violence, from a victim's perspective (as related to tho composer over many hours, by, victim of domestic violence). The four movements include seelions that depict 1) the initial abuse, 2) the denial process, 3) attempts to break free from the perpetrator, and the extended period of healing. The movements are most effective when played together, but each movement can stand on its own.

Inquires to which the staff of the society responds fall into several categories, but all can be characterized as sensible, ludicrous, or somewhere in between. Most sensible requests focus on genealogy, old businesses, or some other facet of early Adams county history. Many other times, ludicrous requests are received from parties who want to know something about their ancestors from some foreign state who fought in the battle of Gettysburg. The society simply does not have that information.
At face value, however, some requests only border on the ludicrous. Such was one relatively recent inquiry which the author was asked …

O Caramuru Y Caramurú: Sus Relaciones En La Formación De Un Protoimaginario Nacional Uruguayo, Maria Cristina Burgueno
Modern Languages Faculty Research
This article examines the inter-textual relations between the novel Caramurú (1848?) by the Uruguayan writer Alejandro Magariños Cervantes, and the epic poem O Caramuru (1781) by the Portuguese Friar Jose de Santa Rita Durão. The thesis of the article is that these literary works reflect the deep cultural and political connections between Uruguay and Brazil, and how these links were present at the time when –surrounded by uncertainties about the viability of the new state—the elaboration of a Uruguayan national identity started. These tea bowls, with their intimate scale and individual personalities, simultaneeously offer an apprectiation of the past and the contemporary. The subtle beauty of traditional-style bowls contrasts with the more exuberant contemporary idiom, raising an awareness of the role that art has, and can play, in everyday life.
