The History Never Written: Bards, Druids, And The Problem Of Antiquarianism In Poly Olbion, John E. Curran Jr.

The rise of antiquarianism in late Elizabethan/early Jacobean England posed a threat to the common and traditional notion of continuity through time of British institutions and culture, including the transmission of historical texts. This threat was a major preoccupation for the poet Michael Drayton, and his response to it can be examined in his depictions of bards and druids in Poly Olbion. Conservatives in the historiographical debate put forth these ancient British poet/priests as an explanation for how ancient British history could have been transmitted through the centuries. David Montejano and others characterize early Hispanic-Anglo relations as operating under a "peace structure," during which the two groups developed strong alliances. However, they suggest that after 1848, "conflict and distrust" replaced it. These studies rely on anecdotal evidence. To date, no one has sought to verify them using actual patterns of social interaction.

This study addresses intermarriage between Hispanic, white non-Hispanic, Black and mixed heritage individuals in Hidalgo County. The quantitative data shows that the demographic characteristics of the area played a major role in defining the patterns of intermarriage. The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

THOMAS MATCHIE explores a spirituality rooted in goodness, an affirmation of faith and community across the fissures which sometimes separate us, not one expressed in cults, cant, and combat boots, as revealed in four novels set in the Midwest. Professor of English at North Dakota State University in Fargo, Matchie teaches American literature, including midwestem and multicultural authors. He has published numerous articles on the Great Plains, including works by Louise Erdrich, Thomas McGrath, and Lois Hudson. Interested in political issues, he has also served in the North Dakota Senate.

The hypothesis tested in this thesis was whether there has been an evident evolution in the democratic thought of those engaged in China's Democracy Movement in the post-Mao era. The activists of the Democracy Movement of 1978-79, following a long-standing tradition of remonstrance, were among those substantially influenced by the events of the Great Proletarian Cultural Revolution. The activists initiated big character posters on Democracy Walls throughout China--but among the most influential was Beijing's. เรื่องเวสสันดรชาดกเป็นเรื่องที่ชาวไทยเชื่อกันมาช้านานว่าเมื่อฟังแล้วจะได้บุญ ด้วยเชื่อในทานบารมีของพระเวสสันดรอย่างแน่นแฟ้นจนปราศจากข้อสงสัยใด ๆ ในเหตุผลและการตัดสินพระทัย ของพระเวสสันดร ความคิดดังกล่าวนี้เป็นที่ยอมรับโดยทั่วกัน แม้ว่าเรื่องพระเวสสันดรที่ปรากฏ ในพระไตรปิฎกกับสำนวนอื่น ๆ จะมีข้อแตกต่างอย่างสำคัญอยู่หลายข้อก็ตาม แต่บัดนี้ความเชื่อ ดังกล่าวกำลังเปลี่ยนไป และการอธิบายแบบเดิมเริ่มไม่เป็นที่ยอมรับของนักวิชาการบางท่านในปัจจุบัน บทความนี้วิเคราะห์เรื่องเวสสันดรชาดก ว่ามิใช่เป็นเพียงแต่เรื่องแสดงทานบารมีเท่านั้น ยังเป็นเรื่อง ที่แสดงปัญญาบารมีของพระเวสสันดรอีกด้วย

The following is a collection of poems each of which in some fashion deals with knowledge or ideas that we, as creatures of habit, accept to be true. Each poem typically serves to challenge how and why we have become assured of these ideas. Others may simply note an exception, a kink in the proverbial armor if you will. The first section entitled "Myths" works to question several well known mythological or biblical stories that play somewhat prominent roles in contemporary belief systems. Richard Hanley's The Metaphysics of Star Trek is an engaging examination of certain philosophical issues raised within the Star Trek universe. Its title, however, is overly broad; it would be more correctly titled, The Twentieth-Century Applied Metaphysics of Star Trek.
