It would require volumes of print to document completely and properly, to discuss, and to evaluate the quality and scope of his sculptural, architectural, and literary accomplishments, and then additional volumes to duplicate the many monographs, essays, and articles that have been written about him. On The Shoulders Of Giants: The Progress Of Science In The Seventeenth Century, Erich M. Harth

This article gives a brief synopsis of the scientific advancements made during the seventeenth century, the literature of which can partly be found at Syracuse University Special Collections. The author argues that the progenitors of the new scientific thought such as Galileo were not at odds with the mysticism and occultism of the past, and in fact still embraced certain parts of that Middle Ages past.

They draw from three main collections: the Muckenhoupt Collection, the Wolff-Leavenworth Collection, and the Leopold von Ranke library. This article relates the history of John Dryden's translation of Vergil's Aeneid, a first folio edition of which is located at Syracuse University Special Collections. Dryden's translation, written in seventeenth century England, reflected the tense polticial environment of the times, and competed with several translations from other writers.
