Muhlenberg County Heritage

“The Muhlenberg County [Kentucky] Heritage” was published four times a year by the Muhlenberg County Genealogical Society in Greenville, Kentucky, from 1978 to 2001. The cover title sometimes appears as “The Heritage.” The publication’s purpose was to support the society and to publish information about the genealogy, culture, and history of Muhlenberg County. A separate annual index was printed each year for volumes 1-14. Afterwards, each issue was indexed separately. Generally, the index is to surnames only.

Jack Kleinsinger presents Highlights in Jazz. The concert was held at NYU Loeb Student Center, Thursday, December 20th, 1979 at 8:00pm in association with NYU program board. Jack served as producer and master of ceremonies for the series of concerts. Artists for the concert include Clark Terry, Panama Francis and his Savoy Sultans featuring Irv Stokes, Francis Williams, George Kelly, Howard Johnson, Norris Turney, Red Richards, John Smith and Bill Pemberton, making their American debut, Maxine Sullivan, Milit Hinton and Roy Eldridge. Special guests: Slam Stewart and Dick Katz.

Written for the piano in 1862, "Weiner Hagen" variations were transcribed in 1863 for organ by Franz Liszt. The transcription is really a large fantasia in the key of F minor that consists of groups of variations, all of which are based on two closely related themes. This arrangement for symphonic band was written for the intended use of any university or good high school level organization. There are many exposed solos and other sections and in various places, extreme ranges of instruments are realized. "the Suffolk Campaign: A Case Study," covers the Civil War that began on April 11, 1863 and ended on May 3, 1863 and centered around the small Tidewater Virginia town of Suffolk. Suffolk's strategic prominence was derived from its access to the James River, through tributary (the Nansemond), and two major railroads which ran through the town--the Petersburg and Norfolk, and the Roanoke and Seaboard. The Confederates abandoned the town after McClellan's Peninsula Campaign made their position their untenable. Federal troops quickly entered Suffolk and established it as the first line of defense for Norfolk. Suffolk came under the military …
